Owner accused of selling drug paraphernalia
The I 135 / I 70 Drug Task Force executes a search warrant and arrests the owner of a Salina tobacco shop.
Police Captain Mike Sweeney says that officers executed a search warrant at Pack Rat Smokes at 695 south Broadway Tuesday. He says that the search warrant was conducted to seize illegal drug paraphernalia that was being sold at the business.
According to Sweeney, they seized numerous items of drug paraphernalia including 1,810 small marijuana smoking pipes, 275 marijuana water bongs, multiple marijuana grinders, numerous baggies used to package marijuana and other drugs, and scales.
Officers also seized 490 individually packaged bags of incense vegetation marked as being K-3, K-4, K-5, K-6, and K-7. All will analyzed by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation lab to determine their contents.
If the compounds JWH-081, JWH-073, or HU-210 along with the stimulant BZP or TFMPP are found, further charges may follow. All are banned substances that mimic the effect of marijuana.
The owner of the store, 51-year-old Brian Schultz was arrested on a felony charge of unlawful possession / sale of drug paraphernalia.
Police say that Schultz had previously received written notice, over the summer, of Kansas laws defining drug paraphernalia.
Sweeney adds that other businesses in Salina that sell similar items are under observation.
