Teenagers Using Burt's Bees Lip Balm To Get High

  1. Rob Cypher
Startling new reports claim that teenagers have found a new way to get high that involves Burt’s Bees brand lip balm.

According to reports, the latest way that teens have found they can get high is by applying Burt’s Bees lip balm to their eyelids. Most would agree that this seems like a ridiculous thing to do, but the new fad called “Beezin” reportedly gives kids the same feeling they would get if they were drunk or stoned. Still, doctors are warning teens that this may not be safe for their eyes if it is continued.

"The peppermint oil in the lip balm is a very strong irritant and can cause inflammation in the eye redness of the eye swelling," said Dr. Brett Cauthen to Oklahoma City’s KOKH.

While teens may view this latest trend to be harmless since Burt’s Bees is made from natural products, experts say that using the lip balm for anything other than what it is supposed to be used for is the dangerous part.

"Our big message is natural does not equate with safety," said Dr. Cauthen.

Truman Claytor, an Ohio alcohol and drug therapist, told WNWO that trends like this can sometimes lead teens towards harder drugs and alcohol.

"Kids look for trends and they find it on Facebook and YouTube and they get into that stuff and start experimenting," said Claytor.

Experts are warning parents to look for warning signs that include random changes in behavior.

Wait....what? There is nothing in burts bees that is psychoactive to my knowledge. This article does not elaborate on anything really. Cheese and rice!

This may have been the dumbest thing I've read on this forum.

Sounds like a major troll to me...

Sort of a modern day version of "smoking banana peels" to get high.

These types of "stories" are malicious pranks intended to get gets dumb kids to do dumb things and possibly curb their drug seeking behavior. These trends have a tendency to do little more that cause discomfort or unpleasant physical pain or irritation for the poor ignorant youth that tries it.

It is possible that these practices can be dangerous, but much like "pasting", I doubt there is any truth to "beezin" actually causing any sort of drunk or stoned feeling.

If anyone could elaborate the mechanism by which burt's bees gets you high, I'd love to hear it and be proven wrong.

    Tube says:

    Sunflower oil
    Vitamin E

    From an official source

Beeswax (Apis Mellifera) , Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil , Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil , Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil , Lanolin , Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E) , Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract , Comfrey (Symphytum Officinale) Root Extract , Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil , Canola Oil

Comfrey has been used in traditional medicine for some odd ailments like bone fractures and its only approved for topical use. It is not for human consumption, probably because its toxic

From wiki-p.. I will look for the study later

oh damn I have have heard this myth concerning 'Tiger Balm' already in 1981.

And no, I was not getting high. But it sure made my eyes water.

It's a damn nuisance that these old myths are warmed up and probably lead nosey kids to getting menthol oil in their eyes.

Other news sources are saying that kids are doing this because the peppermint oil basically causes a burning/tingling sensation that feels 'cool' if you are already drunk or high to begin with.

Yeah, real cool... Until you come down and realize that you just gave yourself pinkeye or some other nasty, raging eye infection.

So pretty fucking stupid either way you look at it, but that would still makes a hell of a lot more sense than the story that people are actually getting high from just putting lip balm on your eyelids alone...

Maybe the hives are next door to a clandestine lab, and Burt's bees have been harvesting the wrong kind of nectar? Now we just need a urine sample from one of the bees to test this theory...

I'd very much like to watch you collect bee's urine, phen.:crazy Who knows what kinds of Bees were in that Hive...

at least as entertaining as reading this article..

This sounds alot like the use of vicks vapo-rub by MDMA users. Can't tell you how many times I've been offered some while I was rolling. Often rubbing it under your nose and eyes, which then pretty much floods your senses with cooling/tingling/burning peppermint feel. I never really saw much point in it, just made my eyes water like a motherfuck for a few minutes.

Now the vicks nose inhalers have a little something to em, with the l-meth and all. But this probably wouldn't do shit besides make a person feel weird. Similar to spinning around in cirlces a bunch or eating a spicy pepper, just a strange sensation is all.

People have all sorts of weird things they do while high, often thinking it gets em "higher." One that comes to mind that an old friend tried getting me to do was go and open a freezer while your on MDMA then sit there and take deep breaths of it for a few minutes... "Dude it gets you going..." Hahaha.

Ok...i did alot of stupid shit when i. Was a kid,
but nothing like this stupid shit! Here's the real question,
if these kids are doing these really crazy things
for attention, and they are doing it for attention.
What's going on at home? Mommy and daddy aren't paying much attention to there babies
as they claim. At least when there babies are laying in the casket.
It's "my baby,my baby! ..but while there alive its "oh,
there just finding themselves yada yada yada"!.
I hope i didn't offend anyone. Its just, i have children too!
If i ever found. Out they had done something as. Dumb as
this lip balm crap, well .......i can't say online. Thnks for reading
    fellow df members.....lol....:)
