One of Mexico's most wanted drug lords has been arrested by Mexican police.
Jose Antonio Arcos of La Familia drug cartel is "one of most wanted suspected criminals, for whose capture a 240,000 dollar reward was offered," the Public Security Ministry said in a statement.
Arcos was arrested in Morelia, capital of the western Michoacán state where La Familia operates, it added.
Mexican authorities have been battling a spiralling wave of drug-related crime and murder that has killed more than 28,000 people since 2006, despite the deployment of some 50,000 troops across the country.
Arcos, the security ministry said, he was suspected of being one of 20 top drug cartel bosses being sought in Mexico, with a total price on their heads of $2.4 million.
He "is also under investigation for drug trafficking in the United States," it added.
The FBI, which arrested more than 300 La Familia members a year ago in the United States, has described the criminal gang as highly sophisticated and brutal in its dealings.
There are seven major drug cartels operating in Mexico, including La Familia, authorities said.
