Trucker busted at border with ecstasy in truck
A Surrey trucker is facing charges after being busted at the border for allegedly attempting to smuggle $2-million worth of ecstasy into the United States.
Paul Douglas, 53, was arrested early Thursday after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered 162,415 pills inside the cab of his commercial truck.
Douglas had told officers he was heading to Yakama, Wash., to pick up a load of fruit before heading back to Canada.
A gamma X-ray image scan of his tractor-trailer revealed two cardboard boxes with numerous vacuum-sealed bags of ecstasy pills inside.
Area port director Greg Alvarez said the bust is the ninth major ecstasy seizure in the area in a one-year period,
