La Casita, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station seized more than 2,500 pounds of marijuana late Friday evening.
U.S. Border Patrol agents on patrol south of La Casita observed a white cargo van travel south toward the Rio Grande without the use of its headlights. Agents went to investigate the suspicious activity and discovered the van abandoned.
The van, a 2002 Ford E350 Super Duty Van, was abandoned about 800 yards north of the river loaded with more than 1 ton of marijuana. The narcotics are valued at more than $2 million.
