OHIO - Let’s be real: During the All State Sugar Bowl on Thursday there was a moment when you found yourself wondering if those decals on the back of Ohio State’s football helmets were marijuana leaves.

No judgement. You weren’t alone. Others asked themselves the same question as they watched the Ohio State Buckeyes beat the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 42-35 in New Orleans.

Here are 30 others who recently pondered the buckeye stickers — and scroll past the tweets to read the story of a Tennessee police officer who pulled a 65-year-old woman over to question her about the Buckeyes sticker on her back bumper.

“It’s just amazing they would be that dumb,” the woman said at the time.

For now, back to the 30 others who thought the Ohio State players might have been making a political statement this season.

I see these Ohio State buckeye stickers everywhere where I live, and I've always thought they looked like pot leaves too. I actually know someone who had one of these on his car, and his mom actually did mistake it for a pot leaf. :)

Just an observation, people and society in general need to take a step back and stop jumping to conclusions over things like this. Society in some parts are way over sensitive and need to relax. Legalization of marijuana will not cause the downfall of western society, nor will a few stickers that happen to look like marijuana leaves. For what it's worth, one could extrapolate that the Canadian flag has a marijuana leaf on it too... (Yeah, I know it's a maple leaf, but same idea)

When society finally figures out that morality should not be dictated by the legal and criminal justice systems, and people are able to coexist by accepting that others have different viewpoints than theirs, the world will be a much better place. Intolerance, closed-mindedness, and imposing one's beliefs and morals on others is the causes many of the problems we have in the world and society in general.

The news media is also to blame for this by promoting wild speculation about things until the facts are all in. This teaches people to adopt the same manner of thinking and ponder all the "what if's" making them paranoid, scared and somewhat delusional.

Meh... it's just s sticker, who cares?

    Be responsible...

This seems to happen every few years. A couple years ago there was a women stopped in Tennessee by the police because they saw a buckeye leaf bumper sticker and mistakenly thought "oh there's a marijuana bumper sticker on that car they must be transporting marijuana, lets stop them!!!". You'd think the police would be trained on what a marijuana leaf looks like...lol.

Make a big play for your team and be rewarded with a sticker / voucher , redeemable for a eighth ounce of medical grade cannabis.

That is one good way to motivate a group of non-motivated stoner students ..

"Okay coach put me in, I need to re-up "

Wait, she got pulled over for a sticker on her bumper? Even if it were a blatant marijuana leaf sticker, isn't that totally legal? Police state much.

Um, no? This is what they call in court "a reasonable suspicion" to stop and pat down

The buckeye tree's leaves have 5 points vs marijuana that generally has 7.

    That's the difference I guess

I think "thecannabist.com" is doing a half assed job of stirring shit with this old worn out story.

People have marijuana leaf stickers on cars, marijuana leaves on their clothes, jewelry, tattoos and everything else under the Sun every day in plain sight in the usa without drawing police attention

I think it's fair to say that because of a very real, US "mid-state" marijuana fear, anything that looks like it may even hint at a backing of marijuana legalization is going to raise the hackles of the neurotic people in states like Ohio.

Had the leaves been spotted on the helmets of California or Washington State ball teams helmets, nothing like this knee-jerk reaction would have happened.

Trust me, those buckeye stickers are not raising any drug prohibitionist's eyebrows in the state of Ohio.

People are fanatical for Ohio state sports in Ohio .. Those buckeye leaves are all over the place all year round on every item imaginable.. There are buckeye tattoo'd people in buckeye themed beds, fucking with buckeye leaf condoms, while listening to music from buckeye leaf speakers.

Having a marijuana leaf sticker isn't even grounds for police suspicion.. They don't pull 65 year old ladies over for that lol

Basoodler's right. Those things are *everywhere* in Ohio. There are whole stores full of stuff emblazoned with buckeye leaves and other Ohio State regalia. :)
