Weekend drug bust is Flint's biggest
Cocaine street value around $2 million
FLINT (WJRT) - (02/13/07)--Ten kilograms of cocaine with a street value of more than $1 million were off the streets of Genesee County Tuesday afternoon.
The drug bust happened over the weekend in the city of Flint. Tuesday the county sheriff unveiled the seized goods.
It's believed to be the biggest drug and cash seizure in the history of Genesee County. And it may have international connections.
Deshawn Howard, 33, of Flint Township, and 42-year-old Jorge Viramontes are suspected of running the criminal drug enterprise.
Viramontes is not a United States citizen and identifies himself as a Mexican national from California.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Department was tipped off that the two were running a drug house on Sloan Street in Flint.
The county drug posse set up surveillance at the house and Saturday made the drug bust. They recovered 10 kilos of cocaine and more than $500,000 in cash from two locations.
Police say Howard resisted arrest and led police on a chase while throwing kilos of cocaine out of his car window.
Howard was eventually arrested at a house on Page Street on Flint's north side. The two suspects are being held in the Genesee County Jail. They are expected to appear in federal court Wednesday.
The cocaine has a street value of $2 million.
