Nadya Suleman, aka Octomom, is heading to rehab.

The controversial mother of 14 children checked herself into the Chapman House Treatment center in Orange, Calif. last Tuesday evening for anxiety, stress and exhaustion, E! News confirms.

According to Suleman's rep, Nadya has been "taking Xanax that was prescribed by her doctor to deal with anxiety, but she felt she needed a treatment program to help with her recovery."

The 37-year-old exotic dancer will remain in treatment for 28 days or more, if needed.

Suleman's rep also added that the rehab center offered to treat the infamous mother at no charge, but Nadya opted to pay for the program.

TMZ reports that Nadya is leaving all 14 children in the care of three nannies and two friends.

Prior to entering treatment, Octomom celebrated in NYC after learning that she would not be prosecuted for child neglect.

While she was away on the East Coast, her Palmdale, Calif., house was vandalized.

Best of luck to Suleman as she seeks help.

This artical really angers me. The woman is raising 14 kids and instead of suggesting therapy her Dr jumps into the deep end and suggests Xanax. Basic logic would state that intoxication makes raising kids harder and all the xanax would do is make her care less. In addition side effects of memory loss and sedation make this an appauling choice of drug. That Dr should be struck off.

14 kids? I'd be begging for IV morphine to get through the day, and I'm not even an opiate user! :p

I can see that you're from the UK. From first had experience, this is common in the US. The doctor just wants to send you in and out quick. Hell, I receive 180x 10mg diazepam a month though I would never need that much.

Making porn and infomercials must be stressful..

I wasn't aware that ppl checked into rehab for stress until I recently heard about Leanne rimes claiming she just checked out for that reason.

Its odd to me because when I was drunk all the goddamn time and eating benzo's like jellybeans it would have taking a tranquilizer dart and a special forces unit to drag my ass to rehab.. these people are joyfully Walking in for stress..

Is that just a cover to keep press at bay?

    Yep, it's just a cover.

Stars being hospitalized for "stress" or "exhaustion" has been going on for YEARS - it's usually a cover for either a mental breakdown of some sort (I think depression, usually) or a drug problem.

Like a detox or rehab center would really take you for "stress". *smirk*

IIRC, before detox/rehab centers were commonplace (basically, in pre-Betty Ford Clinic times), you went to the psych ward to get off drugs. Now there are separate detoxing facilities, so it's a bit harder to get away with that "hospitalized for exhaustion" excuse if you actually end up in a rehab, not a hospital! *lol*

I think Lindsey Lohan has been hospitalized for "exhaustion". 'nuff said. ;)
