Switching from Norco to Oxycodone 30 mg

My friend has been on pain management meds for about 6 years. He started with Vicodin, proceeded to Norco and was taking upwards to 15-18 pills a day. His doctor didn't think that was safe given the amount of acetaminophen he was consuming daily so yesterday during his monthly appointment she switched him Norco to Oxy IR 30mg 4-5 times a day. He is wondering now since he's all out of Norco's if he'll suffer any withdrawls and what his experience will be with this new medication.

Has anybody had any experiences with this? Do you think the dosage his doctor gave him is the right one given the amount of Norco he was taking? If he's ever withdrawing, will it be worse that with Norco?

Any words of wisdom welcome.

Re: Switching from Norco to Oxycodone 30 mg

Well since oxycodone is actually stronger than hydrocodone then you definitely shouldn't go through withdrawals, in fact it should help your pain more. You are very fortunate to no longer be taking acetaminophen because it wreaks havoc on your liver. Just be careful taking the oxycodone because it is very easy to run out early, keep a careful watch on your supply. It can make you nauseated though so have food on your stomach when you take it and it can make you drowsy, so be careful if that as well.

What you have been given by your doctor is a hot product because of the abuse factor since oxy started making OPs swim has done a whole lot of em a while back swims good friend had a script for the IRs and oxy 80s the 30s are pretty strong when used correctly you might want to see how 1 hits you wouldnt recomend doing over 1 till you get used to em they hit hard

Re: Switching from Norco to Oxycodone 30 mg

Thank you for the responses kind friends. My friend (MF) took one, felt no relief, took another half and just fell asleep. Unfortunately none of the warm fuzzy feelings either and the burst of energy. I guess considering that MF had been taking 4 Norcos at a time it shouldn't be a hard dose. And yes MF is aware to watch out for his supply not running out early since 420 Norcos would only last 24 days and would run out a week early and would go through horrible times for a few days until his next rx came in. I'm hoping that since MF doesn't get that beautiful opiate high on oxys, he won't be taking too many like he did with the Norcos. Could be time to start cutting down. I've read so many bad things about oxys being so addictive that it scares him to get more hooked on these pills than he was on Norco. I am scared for MF. He wants to continue to get those feelings but doesn't want to mess with a stronger med than he was already on. The doctor also considered dialudid if the oxy didn't work. Which one is better?
