Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 3 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.
Sorry if this has been covererd, swim looked around but couldn't find anything..anywho, Swim's good friend has been dabbling in heroin (Oh and swim has warned him numerous times, but his friend is very careful and sets limits for himself that he keeps. Also, he gets his smack from Swim's best friend and told swim that if swim ever thinks his use is out of control to just cut him off....but enough of that). Every time swim's friend does smack, his voice becomes noticeably deeper and hoarser, like REALLY noticeable, to the point where people think he's sick or something.
Anybody else experience this or know what could be causing this? Swim's friends have tried the same batch and nobody else has experienced this, and in Swim's couple of years of heroin usage he's never seen or felt this before. Anybody think this might be a sign of something dangerous?
no, when swim started using opiates his beef and potatoes phase ended cause he couldn't eat anything undissolved in some solvent. swim lived on ice cream for a month because opiates relaxed his throat muscles to tonsillectomy sensitivity.
SWIM cannot recall his voice deepening whilst he was actually smoking h3..what he does know is the years of running lines have definitely roughened his speaking voice acutely this is slowly softening again now but for years his 'normal' speaking voice was more of a deep growl..perfect for scaring small children and animals..eek!
I'm not sure it could be described as hoarseness, but quite a few heroin addicts do tend to develop that instantly recognisable smackhead drawl... you know the one, where their speech pattern is slowed down, and their voice lowers in pitch, and almost falters and breaks mid-word.
Doesn't tend to happen to everyone, seems to be more common in women, rather than men. And swim hopes she never spoke like that, she really does.
Does heroin have a physiological effect on the vocal chords, causing this distortion of voice? Or is it just the gouchy effects of the gear that are causing speech to be slowed down and delivered much more lazily? It's not just from smoking heroin either, swim has known many addicts who inject start speaking like this.
Never really thought about why before, it's an interesting topic for a thread.
Yeah that is swim when he uses his voice gets slowed down and real horse and anyone who knows swim knows he must be high. Swim usually talks extremely fast and is bubbly so its pretty obvious. Swim knows a few people whose voices get different when high.
This happens to Swim and everyone swim knows. Swim's friend said that it was because how when you do dope your respiratory system and other parts of your body relaxes, including your vocal chords. Swim is not sure if this is really why it happens, but it sounds sensible.
yes, the voice does change after significant use, specially when the itches and high kicks in. it could be called hoarseness or ne other term, its a dead give away to junkies alike. but its only lasts for that moment, in the comedown its gone.
Mr. Swim doesn't know if this is directly on topic but Mr. Swim would still like to add his two cents. Mr. Swim noticed his singing voice was much more attractive and he could also write songs for the first time in his life. Mr. Swim realizes that artists didn't just attribute heroin to their great success because they were in love and it made them feel good.
My SWIM's voice was periodically VERY, I mean - extremely "raspy" and hoarse, it would almost crackle like when you are sick and lose your voice or how you talk when you feel like you need to clear your throat. This happened when he was actively using. He wasn't high when I heard his voice do this (as far as I know) but, he was definitely actively using at the time. *Note* he is an IV user....
