SWIM has been floating around the forums for coming up on three years now, but still is still on newbie status. What a disgrace! This is gonna change, as SWIM is striving to be a productive member of the DF community! SWIM absolutely loves this website and every one of its knowledgeble and caring members! Keep up the good work!
Back to the point, SWIM has been dealing with this rather odd side efffect for a few years since first dabbling in the vindictive world of Heroin. As SWIY may have gathered from the title, SWIM seems to awlays get the hiccups while under the infuence. Now, theres several wierd details to these hiccups. They take up to two hours to finally taper off.
And the other strange thing is that SWIM only gets the hiccups if he drinks a carbonated beverage. This makes no sense to SWIM and he was hoping perhaps someone could make sense of this! It literally starts on cue with the first sip. AS SOON as SWIM takes just one sip of any kind of soda, the hiccups start.
This drives SWIM up the wall, as he cant stand the hiccups! Does this strike anyone else as really odd? SWIM could just give up the soft drinks, but hge really enjoys his orange soda while on the nod!! Is there any explanation for this or is it just a mystery?
Has anyone else experienced this? SWIM doesnt even have a clue as to why this would occur. Forgive SWIM if this is a nonsense question to ask, but hes been meaning to get anyones input/opinion of this.
ya swim seconds that, I think it has somthing to do with the soda, as swim loves doctor pepper...
heres what swim does, take a deep breath and hold in as much air as swiy can,... while holding swiy's breath swallow, and begin tying to take more air in like gasping for air do it a few times and then repeat the whole process if neccassary.
SWIM found the same effect happening after he smoked smack and then ate something..oddly enough drinking anything never caused this problem...
SWIM has wondered about this for some time and came to the conclusion it was perhaps related to the respiratory depressing side effect of opiate ingestion..
SWIM only ever smoked his gear, and wonders is the hiccuping confined to other smokers or those slamming find they too suffer??...
swims partner gets hiccups a lot after smoking H, doesnt seem to matter if she has a drink or not but it happens a lot an for quit a while to.
she has to to the ol drinkin upside down trick to get rid of em. lol.
swim randomly will get hiccups when he uses opiates. swin doesnt think it has anything to do with drinking carbonated drinks. swim drinks a lot of beer when hes on them, sometimes he hiccups sometimes he doesnt. the thing that bugs swim the most is he cant piss when hes on them.
How funny! I think its related to the opiate/opioid moreso than the beverages. I have seen this side effect on several occasions with several people on several different things--all similar. I guess it is dose related and certainly respiratory related. I personally suck a lemon when I have hiccups. I don't know why this works for me but it does.
yes swim iv's her dope, and she used to snort it, and has always gotten the hiccups. she also experianced this with oxys and many other opiates as well, so it is not only smoking or only heroin.
she has gotten them with or without smoking, and with or without eating or drinking anything, so swim is quite sure it is a side effects of just the opiates, nothing else.
however, hiccups have something to do with your respiration and air being taken in improperly somehow (not sure of the actual details) so it makes sense that doing something with your mouth like drinking, smoking, or eating could get the hiccups started.
Swim always imagined that the hiccups were caused by the respiratory depression side effect, not from any food/drink. However, Swim had never gotten the hiccups untill he drinks soda. Oddly enough, beer doesnt do it, just soda... Talk about strange.
Perhaps it simply triggers it? Oh, and one more note, SWIM and never had hiccups for more than 20 mins. However, the same day SWIM started this thread, he had the hiccups from 7:30am to 4 fucking o'clock pm!! SWIM kids you not. Swim was more irritable than he ever recalls being in his life. Shit, having hiccups for 5 minutes ticks him off.
Maybe they wouldnt go away because he was thinking about it constantly? Whatever the cause, NOTHING would make it go away. He haf maybe a few 30 minute intervals where they subsided, but they came right back. GRRRR~!
Anywho, thanks for your replies, keep em coming. Good to know SWIM isnt the only one that this happens to!!!
Yeah it happens to swim all the time mainly when he does a lot and the hiccups are almost painful and a lot of the time he has to drink so much water to make it stop it makes him feel sick. It tends to not happen though when swim is doing speed ball's for some reason.
since the general concensus is that everyone gets hiccups with opiate use, swim just wanted to mention that this doesn't happen to her.
although, strangely, she does get terrible hiccups from time to time that go for an hour or two, not after doing heroin though.
she hasn't had this in awhile now that she thinks about it but it used to happen a lot and was so annoying.
for the OP, it sounds like the opiate use is the reason for the hiccups and the soda must trigger it. maybe swiy should try not drinking any soda and see if swiy still gets the hiccups ... kind of like a science project.
Ahh, SWIYEden, dont ya hate the fucking hiccups??!! And to satisfy SWIY curiosity, SWIM did a little science experiment for SWIY!!!
SWIM has refrained from drinking soda for the last 2 days of using Heroin. No hiccups. NOT ONE TIME to SWIM's relief. 'Tis a bummer tho, as soda tastes so utterly fantastic when on the nod!!
Now, SWIM has just taken a shot about 40 minutes ago. SWIM poured himself a tall glass of orange soda. Lotsa ice. And, as if it was a surprise, on the fourth or fifth sip, BAM! The dreaded hiccups set in!! As much as SWIY hates the fucking hiccups, he had to fulfill SWIY's request of a "Science Experiment" as SWIY so elegantly put it.
Thanks for makin SWIM set himself into this hiccup episode! However, its safe to say now that SWIM's gotta lay off his favorite beverage while on the nod! Next, SWIM will try shaking up the soda untill its flat and see if its happens. SWIM enjoys flat soda better anyhow! He'll be sure to post ya a follow-up on the outcome!
SWIM's boyfriend quite often gets the hiccups during or after heroin use and it bugs the hell out of SWIM! In fact she's been quite unsympathetic to him about it up to now - it never figured to her that it might actually be a bona-fide reaction to heroin use. Actually, it's quite weird but SWIM's noticed that the side effects, esp. relating to w/d are very different for her and her boyfriend. SWIM gets depressed, doesn't want to get out of bed for ages (up until the insomnia kicks in that is), gets flu-pains, shivery, hot and cold flushes, can't eat, feels sick, upset stomach and really bad pains in her legs. SWIM's boyfriend on the other hand seems to sweat most of the heroin out of his system: he literally pours with sweat (SWIM doesn't sweat at all), plus he gets insomnia immediately (at the stage when SWIM just wants to sleep all the time), and he gets restless leg syndrome (and sometimes arms too!), which SWIM has never had.
