As this is a international forum, please use generic pharmaceutical names. The generic name of Oxycontin is oxycodone
Oxycodone <-> Tramadol
GENERALLY AVOID: Concomitant use of tramadol increases the seizure risk in patients taking other opioids. These agents are often individually epileptogenic and may have additive effects on seizure threshold during coadministration. CNS- and respiratory-depressant effects may also be additive. In patients who have been previously dependent on or chronically using opioids, tramadol can also reinitiate physical dependence
or precipitate withdrawal
MANAGEMENT: Concomitant use of tramadol and other opioids should be avoided in general. Tramadol should not be used in opioid-dependent patients, and use in patients who are chronically on opioids is also not recommended. Tramadol is contraindicated in patients with acute opioid intoxication. Tramadol dosage should be reduced if it must be used in patients receiving opioids. Patients should be monitored for development of seizures and CNS and respiratory depression.
1) Yes, respiritory depression combined is additive yes, but a MAJOR interaction? No.
2) Major seizure risk from tramadol + opioids? What? First time swim EVER heard this.
Swim extensively used and researched BOTH tramadol and oxycodone over the past few years. The dangers here are overplayed.
is a bad idea in general.
Tramadol's seizure issues come from the SSRI
SNRI components it has, and not the opioid.
OP: If Swiy is eating that much oxy daily, the tramadol would do next to nothing. Swim compares 300mg tramadol (the ceiling of it!) to about 15-20mg oxycodone, MAX, in terms of general potency. And it won't stack more euphoric opioid effects with the oxy.
Oxy + tram + beer = big suffocation party.
