Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 3 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.
Uhm...as no one apparently mentions this, I'll be that pedant old experienced teacher in opiates here - on SWIY's choice of Opium and what it involves.
I am posting what my friend, CheshireVein, whispered to me once, not long ago:
It might be only wrong intuition, but it seems to me that the OP is choosing Opium over Heroin for 2 possible reasons: a)It's natural b) It's nowhere close to Heroin in terms of potency and physical addiction.
The keyword here is physical addiction.
It's undoubtedly true that Opium is natural - the most natural of all of them, opiates & opioids. It's their momma & poppa, fucking itself and breeding into the meaner, scarier stronger opiates.
As it goes through more and more chemical processes, the all-natural Opium's potency and toxicity is increasing.
Thus, in terms of potency, the order is Opium -> Morphine -> Heroin.
Each drug is one big leap in this guy's evolution towards "Evilness" - the evilness of their addiction potential.
However... be it opium or heroin, it still is part of that beautiful horrific drugs we call Opiates (and sometimes Narcotics), and we classify them in all laws, through all languages, as and among the Class A drugs.
As Opium's potency is, indeed, significantly many times under Heroin's, it's on that same scale : Incredible, Unearthly Euphoria.
It doesn't matter that much how you experience this euphoria - if it's opium or morphine, heroin or oxy's. They all give different levels of that same euphoria.
And that's what caught us, addicts. The permanent exhausting ecstatic endless search for just another day, minute or second in the special Realm opiates provide. We all long for The Ultimate, we all dream of The Absolute ...and we all get lost on the way trying to find them again and this time, keep them for good.
My point? Be it Opium and not the scary, freaky stigmata Heroin ...it's still a one way ticket to that Perfect World we all wander around for, blind and aching, hitting our heads & souls against that door, as we try to get in, just once more.
What human lonely soul could let go of perfection & self-fulfillment ?
What human babbling mind could refuse the relish of non-existence?
Your shot aiming towards full mind & body addiction starts with that very first peek through that keyhole of Opiate WonderLand. No matter if it's opium or heroin.
It's not your physical addiction to worry about at this point - it's the mental & soul one.
This is coming from an addict who is actually happy with her choice.
But she actually made a choice - don't fall in the abyss of pleasure and denial without being conscious of it! You might even enjoy the fall, if you chose it yourself and didn't just slip.
But I think you are not that conscious- hence "playing around" with Opium, coz "it's not that strong". Yes, my friend, it's nowhere near that strong - but it will eventually get you to the next level, with or without your conscious consent, but with your whole being aching for it inside out.
It's bullshit that any addict ever "suddenly" got physically addicted - it takes time, and perseverance.
You can be surprised, of course - you never realized you really do it everyday for *that* long ...until you wake up some morning with chills running down your spine and goose bumps all over, feeling your bones are breaking inside when didn't even move out of bed yet.
And then you find yourself just another commuter on Paradise Road, forced to go there everyday...coz it hurts so badly if you don't do so... and how could you want to harm yourself when it's so easy to heal? You really want to go there again - you want to stay there, live there.
It's mental addiction that happens "suddenly" and it happens at the first dose of any opiate, regardless of the strenght. You never forget such Realms. If you are meant for this, you're caught & falling from first "trip" to RushLand - if it's weaker (opium), you'll keep going, to have it stronger "next time". If it's heroin, it's just too good to miss the next train that goes there.
Some people are not meant for it. Some people don't like it.
But what if you do?
so can a heroin addict use opium to get rid of the withdrawels or will opium not work for heroin users. assuming the H users tolerance isnt too high an they dont need to do loads of it to ease withdrawels. swim wonders if he can replace heroin with opium? an not suffer withdrawel symptoms.
The following is what I understood so far about opiates. [ I'm not sure of the difference of terms between "opiate" and "opioid", so please don't be too harsh if I'm fucking things up by calling them opiates]
Whatever opiate would you be addicted to, any & all other opiates will work in getting you rid of WDs. All opiates work on the same opioid receptors in your brain, the only factor varying in replacing your addiction specific opiate with another opiate is the potency difference between the two.
If your regular opiate is stronger (more potent) than the opiate you try using for WDs, a bigger amount of the weaker opiate will be needed to soothe the WDs.
Remember, the order of potency (and production, in this specific opiates case) starting with Opium is :
Opium -> Morphine -> Heroin
So: bigger amounts of lower potency opiate are needed as WDs "cure" for higher potency opiates addiction.
Lesser amounts of higher potency opiates are needed for lower potency opiates addiction.
Answering your question, a heroin addict can use opium to get rid of the WDs, but he'll need a bigger amount than someone who is addicted to opium.
Same, someone addicted to opium can use heroin for WDs, but he'll need a much smaller amount of H for the WDs soothing.
Hope it's not too twisted lol
I don't know about opiate-derivate drugs, though.
How do they "work" in this situation, IF they do.
Any more knowledgeable swimmer care to enlighten us, please....?
SWIM would have to say they feel much different though. True opium almost feels slightly psychedelic, whereas heroin most certainly makes SWIM feel "dumb," but not in a bad way--in a "SWIM is so fucked out of his eyeballs on the sweetest painkiller on earth he can't think and wouldn't want to if he could." Opium kind of reminds SWIM of the first few times SWIM smoked really good weed when, four years ago... altho of course there's the whole morphine-body-analgesic thing in there that THC can't account for.
Fuck Yeahhhh buddy lol, yeah swiy could, but heroin withdrawal is by far much worse but if swiy's never felt heroin withdrawal then opium withdrawal will suck just as bad!
Opium/poppy pod withdrawal is acute for a lot longer than heroin, due to it's longer half life. HOWEVER because it is a mix of many different alkaloids(with many differing half lives and durations of action) it can also start quite quickly, within 24-48 hours, albeit it isn't the worst till the 3rd day, then after that the hard bit is over, but there will still be some shakes, mild to moderate sweats, very light nausea and anxiety. However this swimmer found he had a lot more energy after the 3rd to 4th day, felt happier despite the anxiety
