Mdma and Escitalopram (SSRI)

Hi all, swim's looking for some infos and maybe experiences: he is on Escitalopram, a SSRI antidepressant drug (trade names Cipralex, Entact, Lexapro, Nexito among the others) and he's wondering about the possible negative interactions combining Escitalopram and mdma, he knows about the dangers of mdma + MAOIs, but not about mdma + SSRI.

SSRIs are known to attenuate (or, block) the acute physiological effects of MDMA. In other words: SWIY would be wasting MDMA. The most likely potential danger is if SWIY decides to take more MDMA until he feels effects.

Serotonin syndrome would be the main worry. Many people report that SSRI medications will reduce or even completly block any effects from MDMA, the combination is not recomended to begin with.

I'd be very careful what you combine with MDMA. Heh...isn't it good enough on its own?

He's not trying to get high, he's trying to be safe.

It has been said. Lexapro (in the U.S.) is an SSRI and it will basically block the effects of the drug.

I have a friend who takes Lexapro, and he takes a break off the drug for two or three days and then goes to raves and has a good time. I do not condone at all ceasing your doctor's regimen, I would just not take MDMA. The risks of Serotonin Syndrome are very realistic, so you should take that into serious consideration.

Thank you all for your response. Combining the 2 chemicals sounds like a bad idea that more likely will block the effect of the mdma but might as well do some damage, so there's really no reason to risk.
