occurs usually as cocaine hydrochloride salts, which is the freebase cocaine
alkaloid bound to a hydrochloric acid molecule to increase water solubility, which is needed for <MOST> drugs
to be absorbed by mucous membranes (i.e. those found within the lining of the mouth [buccal mucosa] and nose [nasal mucosa]). Though, being an acidic salt, its vaporization point (point at which a certain heat causes the solid to turn into a gas that is able to be inhaled) is fairly high and fairly close to its combustion point (the heat at which the cocaine degrades and becomes nearly if not completely ineffective). Adding baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), a weak base, allows the acid molecule to be ripped off, leaving behind the freebase 'crack
', which has a lower vaporization point to facilitate smoking.
) is not an alkaloid
. Adding baking soda would, if I'm not mistaken, would do nothing but to dilute the substance (one must take more of the powder to achieve the same effects). Furthermore, alprazolam is said to be water-insoluble (cannot be dissolved in water), so in theory it SHOULD NOT be active through snorting
or putting under the tongue. Though SWIM
has found that both these methods produce different and faster, albeit short-lived in comparison to oral, highs. The mechanics of how this is possible elude SWIM.
