Mixing Kava with soda doesn't seem like the best idea, though if swiy has tried it and enjoys the taste he can use whatever floats his boat.
Check out the Kava Preparation thread for more information on how to prepare Kava. Dose isn't especially finicky with Kava and it varies from strain to strain, not to mention the level of effects desired.
I suggest that swiy starts with a reasonably sized dose (enquirewithin's suggestion is good) and then adjust it as necessary once he figures out what works for him.
Swim's kava must be weak then, swim mixes 8 tablespoons with a liter of water and drink this in an hour. This is a good dose.
That would suggest that swiy's kava is weaker, as he has to use a higher dose. 2-3 tablespoons works for swim for a single dose, with the level of efficacy dependent on the extent of preparation (letting it sit / emulsify for longer helps make it stronger). Occasionally, sublingual ingestion of a tablespoon with subsequent supplement of milk after kava is moist and dissipated in saliva will work well for quick onset and instantaneous yet mild anxiolytic relief (particularly with managing side effects of adderall, including incidence of short-term anxiety and accentuation of obsessive compulsive tendencies on occasion).
The specific variety of kava used, as well as its relative potency, determines the effective dose, not to mention personal physiology and psychology. Trial and error assessments of dose evaluated through self-perception of subjective effects should be enough to gauge an efficient dosage. Don't assume the kava you have is the same as what other people consume, or that it will be the same potency as the previous time, even if using the same vendor / strain.
So I believe that one teaspoon or about 2.5 grams or 2500mg at about 8% kavalactones would give me enough kavalactones. Do the math at 2500X.08 that comes out to 200mg. I did the math One teaspoon of regular kava kava root from my vendor gives great relaxation. I don't see why people need 2-8 tablespoons. My math is correct right?
wow 2-3 ounces is a lot of kava. I know that a teaspoon doesn't always equal out to 2.5, I have been a kratom user for quite some time so I know that powders are all ground to different consistency. I thought my math worked out to find a good kavalactones dose given that my kava is about 8%, it might be less or might be more. And it might have more of one kavalactone than the other. I don't know much about kava. Still researching. Everyone is different and what the normal dose is for somebody isn't for someone else. The instructions on my kava samples say to take 1-3 teaspoons. And it is not an extract. But I go by what works for me.
potter is correct, root powder kava when preparation is done people usually use no less then 5 heap full spoons of powder alone-to get around 0.5l batch-thats around full small tea cup at least-also kneading it properly is important since its not a root where one can squezee out much kavalactones in couple minutes-10-15min at least gentle kneading and dipping, until powder feels almost dry, since good kavas feel a bit oily when kneading this is indication that kava is releasing kavalactones.
This said instant is different-2-3 good spoons is enough to have a nice cup or two.
As for root there are a lot of strains from Hawaii to Fiji, and some are real easy-thus even if used in huge amounts effects are minimal thats why id suggest finding source which has quality kava from mentioned places and reading up about each strain-as there are heavy kava kava types as well as light as regular tea.
also no need to use friend or whatever term, kava kava is natural and legal supplement, only few countries have it banned.
I can't imagine anyone getting much from 2.5 grams unless it was an extract, enhanced or some sort of instant kava (which is usually an extract)
I would usually use about 20 grams to make enough for 2 cups.
I drink the first one fast and the second one slower and then i will prepare the same amount again for when i have finished.
Much like Kratom i make sure i do a lot of research on the vendor and the product.
I do not buy kava often, it's not my cup of tea. It's illegal here but so is everything else, my issue is the fucking taste.
Wow, both kava and kratom banned in Ireland? That sucks... But you can get blasted as often as you want on some Bushmills or Jameson's- that makes perfect sense. I lived in Northern Ireland for 1 year, and saw how big the drinking problem was there (and drugs, for that matter). But yet they ban the less harmful substances....
I agree about the taste of kava - absolutely vile. I've gotten used to the taste of kratom, and even like it now. But no matter how many times I drink kava, it is like choking down vomit....
