is a psychedelic
tryptamine with stimulant and entheogenic effects. The visual effects are less intense than with other tryptamines
at common dosages. It's onset of effects is about 1 hour if taken orally, and only seconds if smoked.
[top]Introduction to 5-MeO-DALT
5-MeO-DALT is a psychedelic of the tryptamine familly. It was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin
. It is the n,n-diallyl analogue of DMT
[top]Ways of administration
5-MeO-DALT can be administered orally and rectally, it can also be smoked (vaporized or with a waterpipe), insufflated (effectiveness will depend on whether it is in a salt or in a freebase form) and even injected (injection is overwhelming and not recommanded).
With oral administration, it is common to be aware of the effects in less than 15 minutes and to be fully there at the half-hour point. This implies absorption into the blood stream directly from the stomach and rapid metabolic destruction." Alexander Shulgin
[top]Effects of 5-MeO-DALT
"5-MeO-DALT produces rapid, intense and very short acting entheogenic effects; effects are usually over within 2-4 hours. The compound is said to be completely void of visual/hallucinogenic activity, unlike other closely related substances."
"The rapid onset and rapid drop-off of 5-MeO-DALT is remarkable."
Alexander Shulgin trip reports:
DOSAGE : 12 - 20 mg. orally
DURATION : 2 - 4 h
QUALITATIVE COMMENTS (from various sources) : (with 10 mg. orally) "I am looking at everything through someone's open friendly eyes, not mine. I would like to go through life like this if others saw me as OK. I am 10 feet tall, my pulse is 72 but uneven, and light-headed is a better describer of where I am than psychedelicized."
(with 16 mg. orally) "The music was fabulous, as was the sex and neither of us had a problem with orgasm. But there was a total lack of imagery -- less than I would normally have to the music when unstoned, so there might have been an actual suppression. I was pretty much baseline by the third hour."
(with 20 mg. orally) "It's coming on strongly in 15 minutes, and at the half hour point I am at a +++ with eyes closed -- but nothing with them open! No hang-over."

[top]The dangers of 5-MeO-DALT
There have been no reported deaths or hospitalizations from 5-MeO-DALT, but its safety profile is unknown.
There's no anecdotal evidence to suggest 5-MeO-DALT is any less safe than psilocybin being that they are both trypamines and metabolized in a similar fashion, but there could still be differences in the metabolites that have not yet been researched.
Smoking high dosage of the freebase form (same goes for very high oral dose ) can produce overpowering effects :
Other internet reports do seem to indicate that smoking is rather hard on the heart

I have used 5-MeO-DALT before this, taking orally in doses of 25mg. With good experiences, this was my 1st and last time smoking this chemical. I have a good milligram scale, so measurements are accurate.
So I have heard that 5-MeO-DALT is best when smoked. With 25mg being (what I thought as) a small amount, and not too much when taken orally. I thought it would be a good amount to experiment with.
Packed a bowl of some 'spice
' like incense, which contains both JWH-018 and JWH-073, put 25mg of 5-MeO-DALT on top and fired up. Did not taste to bad, effects were felt immediately after exhaling.
Let me remind you, this is one hit.
Less than 1 minute-
Intense rush takes over my body, with immediate color and pattern changing visuals. Becomes overwhelming very fast.
Heart rate is through the roof, I feel like its going to explode. Add that to the visuals and I'm scared out of my mind. I stay in this overwhelming/way too high panic state for around 1 hour.
With the overwhelming part of the high gone, I'm in a kind of speedy euphoria
, with some visual effects effects along with tracers present.
Effects wearing off slowly, last in total around 3.5 to 4 hours.
Easy come down. No side effects
noticed. But it was enough for me. It might be pleasurable when smoked in smaller quantities, but I'm not willing to try.
Note: I have used meth
, and was even addicted to crack (very bad shit) for a short while. NOTHING has ever made my heart pound like this did. Scared the hell out of me. I REALLY do not recommend trying this.
(working on this now... i know i read some guy had some nasty problem after some binge - investigating....)
These are the dangers common to all psychedelic drugs:
When on a psychedelic drug, it is easier to accidentally injure yourself. Also because of the disorientating and potentially delusion inspiring nature of the experience, you could be lead to inflict harm on others or yourself. People have fallen off rooftops, run into traffic, attempted to throw people off rooftops as 'sacrifices', drowned, and so on. The best way of protecting against this is to have a friend with you who is sober to look after you and handle any negative situation that might arise.
A bad trip
is a negative psychedelic experience. It can range from a mildly negative feeling of anxiety/discomfort, to full-blown psychosis. Bad trips
usually ruin a psychedelic experience for the tripper and everyone else. Most bad trips are manageable, just very uncomfortable and difficult. Some are extreme and unmanageable though. It's not uncommon for a bad trip to result in lingering psychological issues. Usually just a few days of negative emotions and anxiety. Sometimes, however, a week or so of serious anxiety, destabilized mental state and impaired functioning is possible. On very rare occasions, a month or two of severely diminished functioning, traumatized mental state, depression & crippling anxiety can occur. More information on bad trips can be found here
. The best way of avoiding a bad trip is having the correct set and setting.
Psychedelics are believed by researchers not to cause permanent psychosis, however they could trigger a latent mental illness in someone who was already predisposed to it, or make existing mental illnesses worse. If there is a history of mental illness in your family, you are more likely to be predisposed. Everyone is at some risk, however.
PTSD, anxiety disorder, depression & depersonalization.
There are anecdotal reports of the trauma inflicted by some bad trips leading to depression and anxiety which while usually temporary, could potentially develop into lasting disorders. While no different to the potential of any traumatic event to cause lasting disorders, nonetheless this is a danger of psychedelic drug use.

[top]Legal status of 5-MeO-DALT
5-MeO-DALT is unscheduled in the United States.
Even though it is unscheduled it would be easy to prove its effects substantially similar to other schedule I tryptamines e.g. 5-MeO-DIPT
[top]History of 5-MeO-DALT
"I sent the synthesis for 5-MeO-DALT to a friend. He put it on the internet, and one month later it was synthesized in China and sent via Europe to this country. Now it’s available on the street!" (Alexander Shulgin)
A bit of background on that statement: On May 24, 2004, Shulgin sent an email to a psychonaut named Murple regarding the synthesis and effects of 5-MeO-DALT. He formatted the description in the style of a TiHKAL entry and said that it would be included in his forthcoming book. That same day, Murple posted the 5-MeO-DALT synthesis on his personal website. On June 25, it became openly available from a gray-market laboratory for $200 per gram. On September 25, 2004, three months after the chemical hit the market, the first-recorded 5-MeO-DALT overdose occurred when a Floridian user accidentally ingested 225 mg (more than 11 times the maximum dose Shulgin tested) in the midst of Hurricane Jeanne. He survived the experience and shared numinous insights such as “Ozzy and the like do not mix well at all with this substance.”
