1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

What you'd expect from its location
    4/5, 4 out of 5, reviewed Jul 31, 2017
    Pros
    • + Quality counselors
    • + Beautiful location
    • + Interesting clientele
    Cons
    • - 12steps(in my opinion)
    • - Counselors are no different from many other rehabs
    • - Too clinical
    • - Very hospital like on first approach
After going through the mill of around 17 South African rehabs, what makes SS stand out without a doubt is its location. Located on the corner of a beautiful beach, you are treated to beautiful outings, hikes and therapeutic walks along the sea sand on a weekly basis. Other than that, id have to say you can still expect a pretty standard clinical 12step approach to addiction inside. It used to be the old Kommetjie hotel, so the layout is pretty intrigueing for a rehab setting.

    What To Expect On Admission
We take pride in the services we offer and remain committed to being active partners in your treatment. However, we need you to be just as active in this partnership. Treatment involves a willingness to talk about the issues in your life with honesty; it involves striving to develop new methods of coping, and it certainly takes courage, motivation and great determination.

Upon admission to the Clinic, there are naturally a number of initial assessments that will need to be performed. You may have an initial assessment, followed by a meeting with the nurses, and then the doctor/ psychiatrist. Our nursing staff will require some details from you in order to formulate a nursing care plan. A doctor will interview you and assess your current clinical needs. They may also require blood samples for routine tests and screens. A consultant from our therapy services team will assess you and determine which therapy programme you should undertake during your treatment at the Clinic.

Your therapy programme that you will attend at the clinic forms a fundamental base of your overall treatment. You will be assessed as soon as practically suitable and appropriate after your admission. An initial programme will be discussed and agreed with you. It may change during the course of your treatment, depending on your progress and needs.

Temperatures range from 07°C in July to 34°C in January. As a guideline, we recommend the following based on the time of year of your stay:
    • Shirts / T-shirts
    • Trousers / jeans / Shorts
    • Windproof jacket
    • Sweaters
    • Open shoes/sandals for the beach, comfortable walking shoes for hiking
    • Pyjamas
    • In Summer - beach towel, swimming costume/trunks – no bikinis
    • Sun hat & sun block lotion SPF 30+
    • Toiletries
    • Chronic medication
    • Plug adaptor
    Pocket Money
Pocket money can be brought in or preferably transferred directly into our bank account prior to admission. The daily allowance should not exceed R80 per day (for cigarettes, telephone call cards, snacks, recovery literature, etc.). There will be no credit for this facility. Any unspent pocket money will be refunded on discharge.
    Internet/Computers
We would prefer that you do not bring laptops/notebooks/tablets etc. Special requests for access to the internet and/or use of computers must be discussed prior to admission.
    Communication with Family and Friends
Telephone contact with family or friends is permitted only after the first seven days. This allows for time to settle into the programme and allows the family time to process whatever feelings they may have. The family may however contact us at anytime. Should the patient have small children, contact will be allowed during the first seven days, by arrangement.
    Laundry
We have reasonably priced laundry facilities where clothes can be washed and ironed for patients. We provide towels for daily use.

In addition to the items that local clients need to bring with them, international clients will also need:
    Pocket Money
Pocket money can be brought in or preferably transferred directly into our bank account prior to admission. The daily allowance should not exceed £5 - £10 (€6 - €12) per day (for cigarettes, telephone call cards, snacks, recovery literature, etc.). There will be no credit for this facility. Any unspent pocket money will be refunded on discharge.
    Flights
A fixed return flight for 1 or 3 months is recommended depending on the length of stay. We can assist with any changes in flights if required. Patients will be met at Cape Town International Airport by our driver on arrival and transported to Stepping Stones Clinic.
    Visas
A Visa will not be required as a 90 day visitor’s visa is issued automatically on arrival in Cape Town for people travelling from the UK or Europe.
    Travel Insurance
We recommend patients have Worldwide Travel Insurance covering medical emergencies.
