I read this many years ago while struggling to find the "right" antidepressant for me. Nothing seemed to work. The book made me question whether these medications were the most effective treatment for my particular situation. Kirsch contends antidepressant medications are no more effective than a placebo. The author's theories are backed by some scientific studies. He also provides suggestions for alternative treatments for depression. I am not sure I agree with the author's conclusions, but I did find the book interesting and easy to read for a novice.
