1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

Ipomoea Littoralis (Convolvulaceae) - Taxonomy, Distribution, and Ethnobotany

In recent years there has been an increased interest in all of the species related to the economically important Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lain., the sweet potato. This interest is evidenced by several studies funded by the International Board of Plant Genetic Resources, Rome, Italy; the International Potato Center, Lima, Peru; and United States Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, Maryland (cf. Gregory 1988). Consequently, there has been more attention shown to I. littoralis Blume because it is related to I. batatas. Moreover, this interest has been directed toward I. littoralis because it is the only member of Ipomoea section Batatas native to the Old World. All other members of the section are New World endemics, and many have become naturalized widely in the Paleotropics (Austin 1978). Confusion as to the correct name for this sweet potato relative persists.
