1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

Cocaine (2.0 milligrams per kilogram) given by the oral route is at least as effective as the same dose given intranasally. Cocaine is not detected in the plasma until 30 minutes after oral administration, but peak plasma concentrations are similar after both routes. The subjective "highs" in man are greater after oral than after intranasal administration.

This is a very interesting read. However there is a reccurent error, which slightly underminds the credibility of this research : constant references to coca leaf "chewing". Coca leaf chewing works through oral absorbtion, this is true, but through the mouth's mucosa lining, thus entering the blood stream, pretty much the same way nasal mucosa absorbs cocaine Hcl. The coca basifying agent filled saliva is rarely actually swallowed but kept in the mouth for a more effective absorbtion through mouth mucosa. Coca "chewing" is not an indicator of the potential potency of swallowed cocaine, especially since coca chewing does not isolate the cocaine alkaloid itself btw... An amount of saliva is swallowed in the process, and this is said to be beneficial to digestive tract ailments, especially due to numbing effects of coca alkaloids.
From some monkey's experience, eating coca leave, or swallowing ground leaves is also effective.
appart from this somewhat surprising incorrect reference to coca chewing , this is a very interesting read.
