Polysubstance Abuse In University Students

Polysubstance Abuse In University Students

Simultaneous polysubstance use (SPU) is a common phenomenon, yet little is known about how various substances are used with one another. In the present study 149 drug-using university students completed structured interviews about their use of various substances. For each substance ever used, participants provided details about the type, order and amount of all substances co-administered during its most recent administration.

Examination of polysubstance abuse. Shows correlation between usage of certain drugs in relation to others. Cannabis and tobacco were likely to be used while other drugs were being used, and alcohol was likely to be used before other substances were used.

Examines behavior of polysubstance abuse and highlights need for further investigations into this topic. Quite interesting, especially as most studies don't look at simultaneous use of substances, especially over the long term.
