SWIM is seriously pissed off. SWIM doesnt understand why sometimes 60mg of ritz will get her going just fine and then today, which is a way extreme case, 360 has given her nothing but pissed off ness. what is she doing that could be hindering its effects? what can she do to heighten them?

Consuming alcohol and methylphenidate (Ritalin) there is supposed to happen a reaction in the liver giving off ethlyphenidate. The methyl is changed with the etyl of ethanol and there is created methanol as a by product, but in such minute amounts it should do no harm.

Caffeine might heighten the buzz, but might make it more edgy.

SWIY should perhaps consider snorting, as that is much more effective than eating them.

360mg is a really high dose tho. you might be reaching peak tolerance, meaning you wont really get high of it anymore, kinda.

squidaway added 10 Minutes and 55 Seconds later...

Forgot to mention ethylphenidate is supposed to be much more euphoric than methylphenidate.

Perhaps you took the time released Ritalin?

Ritalin which is in the time released capsules will not produce any noticeable stimulation unless the time release mechanism is cut.

For Biphentin, SWIM knows you have to crush the beads and then put the powder back into the capsules, or snort it, etc.

If SWiY uses Concerta, it's a little more complicated: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116418

If SWiY isn't using the time release form, then SWIM is stumped as to why it isn't effecting you. 360MG is an extremely high dose, and if it isn't doing anything for you then you should stop, because it's not doing you any health benefits. Effects are really noticeable, and a 360MG dose would be REALLY noticeable..

    360 mg of Ritalin IR?
I hope you did not take the dose at once!!
    It's a terribly high dose...
and you probably built a tolerance.
    Same is happening to SWIM.

Sounds strange, but sometimes if Girlie's hungry, all she gets from stimulants is irritation. Once she has something to eat, even something as small as a container of yogurt, she starts to feel the euphoria again.

This was just being discussed in regards to opiates in another thread.

Perhaps that comes into play in this situation? Also, if overtired, stimulants seem to just induce irritability and more awake-ness, but not euphoria. Nothing to do then but come down, go to sleep & try again another day. *sigh*

    Good luck!

60mg is potentially dangerous itself, but 360mg of methylphenidate is a massive overdose, perhaps even capable of killing someone from heart failure or seizures. I am sceptical that this dose does nothing but increase aggression; by all rights, someone who ingests 360mg should at least be in hospital. It is possible that it was not methylphenidate at all.

To put this in perspective: 360mg is 12 days' worth of my pet iguana's doses, all in one go.

SWIM took 360 mg of Ritalin IR within 32 hours 3 weeks ago, but NOT all at once.
    36 pills in total.
No physical damage but SWIM admits it was plain stupid and totally too much.
Suffered from headache, insomnia which lasted 2 days and some depression during the "crash".
SWIM built very intense tolerance to Ritalin during the past few months.
    Don't do it!!!
Don't play with such huge amounts of this drug!

HOLY SHIT, swiy took that much at ONCE? Even that much in one night is insane! SO dangerous. You are really playing russian roulette with that high of a dose. When my cat used to do ritalin allll the time, like ridiculous amounts that started effecting her life, she wouldn't even do 360mg in one night. Max was proly nearing 200mg over the course of a binge night and she would end up heart beating wildly, chest pains, dizzy, worried she might have over done it this time. It sounds like swiy really, really need to take a break to get swiys tolerance wayyyy down, or better yet quit with these pills all together. My cat LOOOOVES methylphenidate but the crashes and lack of control she experienced with it wasn't worth it after a while. It sounds like swiy has a lack of control over it as well if she is at a tolerance and dosage that high. Please be careful. :(

    Hi!
wow, 360 MG of ritalin is surely a way to pump that heart! It's alright though. Don't panic! Are you taking any other medications that could alter the affects of ritalin?

Also you could be using a time release pill, which is actually more dangerous in the aspect that you don't feel it until it absorbes into your body.

So make sure to check out what exactly you are taking.

    :)

Girlie often just feels pissed off & irritated if she does stimulants of any kind & is hungry.

Even just forcing down a 'meal replacement shake' can do wonders for bringing back the euphoria.

    Just a suggestion. :)

that is a very high dose, swim quit getting anything from amphetamines years ago. the solution is NOT to take more, this will lead to amphetamine addiction, which is more like an amphetamine mania. one time swim took around 12 30 mg adderals, some dude just gave him them for free. he didn't get high one little bit and snorted everyone of those over a couple hours, and still didn't get high, this was with no amphetamine tolerance. it was awful, now swim only uses it when he is tired, and has shit to do. never will do it at night, because it messes with his sleeping so much.

medications can also interfere with the effects of some drugs, but it really sounds like swiy should stop taking amphetamines.

osnappo added 10 Minutes and 43 Seconds later...

exactly what swim experienced after his massive dose. also intense paranoia about how fast his heart was beating, constantly timing his pulse, also a little amphetamine psychosis. at the time he was having issues with psychosis, and the insomnia from that really fucked with his head, bad situation, swim also recalls a very deep craving/need to get some kind of high from anything, it was very unpleasant

Over a third of a gram by any ROA is a pretty self destructive dose. Glad you don't see this as a regular thing. To find yourself irritable and pretty pissed off frankly sounds like anticipated effects from that kind of dose. Would irritate the hell out of most anyone. Plus add the usual headaches, tachycardia, etc.

well MAP, as stated before, please read the rules on self incrimination, in the end it could save you a whole lot of hassle and help you in good standing in this forum. swim's poo flinging monkey in a dream(SPFMIAD) has said that he has had many encounters with the form of MPH you speak of. he states that especially with rit IR the nose gets coated with a much quicker dispersing goo than rit LA(which lasts for much longer), but it is much higher in volume so these added binders and fillers are coating...*ahem*...SWIY's nose add up much quicker. noting SWIY's usage, SPFMIAD tells me that SWIY must have gained notable buildup in your nose so it would not absorb after a while. also, doing it for that long will seriously decrease the efficacy of it, did SWIY use other methods to potentiate it during the later durations? (caffeine, l-tyrosine, the simple act of tilting back your head so the snot drips down,etc...) if SWIY is truly a veteran then SPFMIAD says s/he should have dealt with a great deal of psychosis, as in his dream experience, the psychosis is SEVERELY more notable over time (and dosage) than it is with amps or anything else in this category

That's not exactly the line of discussion in this thread, it's more about taking huge quantities of methylphenidate by some hamsters and chinchillas.

To avoid buildup of unwanted material in the poo flinging monkey's sinus cavity, he might have a look over in the Cocaine and Crack Forum, a group of critters who are quite familiar with shoving powders up their noses and getting by.

A most helpful sticky thread the hamster found on the subject is here:

Nose Care Tips and Epote's Nose care FAQ

A hamster or chinchilla and even a poo flinging monkey have to keep the schnoz functioning.

But again, the subject was regarding the health and well being of a hamster taking a massive dose of methylphenidate and the consequences other than a clogged nose, though that would probably be a problem in this case as well.

    Be well...

Ritalin greatly decreases dopamine in swiy brain. So if swiy does x amount of ritalin one day then tries to do the same or even more the following day the effects will be greatly decreased. Swiy must wait at least 2- 3 days of no use or better yet wait a week or two and give your brain a chance to replenish its dopamine. Then swiy will feel the same effects as when 1st used.. Swim knows this from experience. Swim also injects his ritalin so what swim said previously is really greatly increased.:(

SWIM has a friend who several times a year does a ritalin run of 20 mg. instant release tablets an hour and has kept this going for up to 3 days at a time without any noticeable effects or any hangover, except wanting to sleep all the time for a week or more after. He has done 480 mg. in a 24 hour period, but says that he normally forgets a dose or three during the run.

Of course, this is NOT recommended. It could be fatal to most people, but this friend of SWIM is prescribed 80 mg. of ritalin a day that he's been taking for years, so he has quite a tolerance built up. He also spent a year snorting cocaine by the handfull every day and spent a few months at another time using meth daily, mostly by capsules orally with occasional smoking (vaping). So this person is stranger to stimulants and always uses harm reduction techniques, such as nasal rinsing and taking supplements, etc.

It also seems like because this friend of SWIM takes it primarily intranasally, the ritalin goes through the system much quicker. If that amount were taken orally within that time frame, it would cause quite an abundance of ritalin in the system. But this person believes that ritalin is metabolized by their body quicker than the average person. He is also in good physical shape and swears that the continued dosing eventually relaxes him and puts him into a euphoric state that in his opinion is better than cocaine. SWIM's friend also believes that he has a dopamine deficiency to begin with, because when he does dopamine enhancing substances he actually feels "normal", as opposed to before he started doing them he was always very sluggish and unmotivated and not interested in socializing.

So it would seem that what could be a fatal dose to one person, may be recreational to another from what I'm gathering here. SWIM's friend even had his blood pressure checked and it was within normal range during one of the binges. But this person is also very systematic when doing stims. He says when he used to measure out cocaine lines so he'd have a line every 30 minutes, with a booster bump every15 and would predetermine how long it would last and time it so after the last line he'd be in bed watching tv and take xanax, so he never experienced a crash. If there was another person sharing he'd make sure their doses were measured out beforehand too, so there would be no running out or arguments over the white gold. lol this avoids many problems. He said he finds ritalin harder to control than cocaine, possibly because it's so cheap and more easily available to him. But he's never had a problem quitting for months at a time and no longer has any desire to do cocaine or meth, but prefers the ritalin experience. He's also never experienced a stimulant psychosis or od'd on stims. The worst he's experienced is slight visual perception differences after being awake for 3 days in a row. These "hallucinations" don't bother him as he knows what causes them and that after sleeping they go away. Actually, he says that he rather enjoys them - a floor tile might look like a puddle of water, or the drapes may appear to slightly move, nothing all that big, but he's never gone for more than 3 nights without sleep.

But he told me to tell everyone that just because he can handle that doesn't mean everyone else can. Ritalin can be highly addictive and for those with heart or circulatory problems it can even kill you. And although he's never injected it, he has heard that as little as 5 mg. is enough to get one extremely high. So please, if you're going to shoot it, don't do much. That seems to be the main cause of od'ing with stims. Lord knows SWIM's friend would be dead by now if it was easy to od by insufflation, but one should always be cautious. Everyone reacts differently to substances. Okay, obviously SWIM's friend has too much to say about this topic. :crazy

Mr. Hamster is concerned about an orangutan using methylphenidate IV as their preferred route of administration (ROA). He truly hopes the orangutan is not simply crushing the tablets and adding water as a solvent for injection. There are many other inactive ingredients which the orangutan might not want floating around directly in their bloodstream. Here's the breakdown in one particular company's formulation of their tablets:

    • Methylphenidate (MPH, 10 mg. Soluble in EtOH and H2O)
    • Lactose Monohydrate (Not soluble in EtOH, soluble in H2O)
    • Magnesium Stearate (Not soluble in either EtOH or H2O)
    • Microcrystalline Cellulose (Not soluble in either EtOH or H2O)
    • Talc (Not soluble in EtOH or H2O)
For more information on how to remove these unwanted materials (talc is especially nasty), and have a "cleaner" product have a look at this post in the thread:

    Methylphenidate Purification TEK (Ritalin/Methylin Pills)

Please for health reasons, if an orangutan gets the idea to use a product like this in a manner for which it was not intended, like a different ROA, make sure harm is minimized. There's a lot of potential harm in crushed and water dissolved tablets. The orangutan's body will appreciate it in the end, even if the ROA is not suggested, like IV.

And while on the subject of how fast and how much of a drug is delivered via differing ROA's an orangutan would be advised to have a look at this post on ROA's Mr. Hamster wrote up in another forum (though he may be encouraged to put it into the Wiki).

Different sensation from oral admin vs. insufflation?

Ranking the speed and bioavailability of a drug by any particular ROA would be something like this:

    1. IV
    2. Inhalation
    3. Rectal
    4. Intranasal
    5. Sublingual
    6. Oral and others
While it is not as likely to OD on any given dose the probably goes up the higher (lower number) in the list above the orangutan chooses. The orangutan shouldn't kid themselves, because intranasal is particularly effective at delivering dosages, and OD is quite possible by that route.

Mr. Hamster found the following in an article (anyone having access to PubMed, it's PMID: PMC181133):

So while none of these show any direct link to dosage and death using methylphenidate intranasally and are somewhat inconclusive, it does show it can and does happen at therapeutic dosage levels when administered intranasally (i.e. 60mg). The authors state also in the article that the intranasal ROA produces quick and high levels of bioavailability resulting in a flood of dopamine (and one would also assume norepinephrine, though not directly mentioned in the article). This heightens the "fight or flight" response and causes increased cardiovascular stress.

So, even though the orangutans practice harm reduction, from what the hamster has read he thinks methylphenidate, amphetamine or other psychostimulants can be just as unpredictable as with cocaine. In fact, there have been numerous cases of cardiac arrest or hypertensive crisis due to normal prescribed use of methylphenidate.

So, the hamster just wants to make sure any other hamsters, chinchillas, and orangutans out there have the facts straight.

Be careful, be safe, be informed, and be well...

Good info Wanderer and very informative. SWIM's friend I've heard wants to make sure no one thinks that he was advocating such obviously dangerous doses of methylphenidate or any other stimulant. He says that such use would put one at great risk. His only interest in relaying the information was try to understand why such substances at those doses do not affect him in the same manner as they appear to affect most people and to report his own personal and admittedly reckless experience. But I've been told he wants to make it clear to everyone who may read his report that doses at that level would be extremely dangerous, possibly deadly for most people and certainly shouldn't be used as a dosing guide for recreational usage. He thinks that at the very least, it would be an unpleasant experience that would leave one feeling miserable for quite a while after. Not worth it. At worst it could lead to permanent damage or death. So he would agree totally with what he is assuming Wanderer is concerned about. Common sense can truly save one's life and SWIM's friend is indeed fortunate to still be alive and healthy. No one should ever copy the actions of someone who did something crazy and is still alive only by luck or some unique "abnormality".

No worries. I felt like just sharing this as I slack off in class to an extremely old post... I once took 350mg of Ritalin ER. That dose, any dose does nothing to me. What did I used to do once I found out accidently? I would mix monster energy drinks with any dose of ritalin to produce euphoric, very in depth, scary ass experiences to the point of me writing suicide noyes and hearing animals laugh at me (ex: crows, cats, dogs, etc...). I'd be up for days to try and satisfy suicidal cravings. I was all along suffering from severe undiagnosed Borderline personality disorder, OCD, bulemia, anorexia, mutilation, depression, etc... My point is to anyone that reads this, don't go "hardcore". I'm much better now, graduating in three weeks, amazing relationship, most importantly though, I'm alive. Stick at low dose highs. I took my ritalin from 6 to 16, over ten years, built up a tollerance that made any buzz impossible and the medication stopped working overall. Play it safe. Don't be silly.
