Combinations - 5-HTP with Marijuana

    So lately I've been taking 5-HTP (about 200mg) 20mins to an hour before
    smoking pot. It makes the high a lot more comfortable, clear headed and
    alert. It also makes walking very fun.

    Anyway, just wondering if doing this often will start to be less
    effective, if there is any tolerance with 5-HTP or if it just plain
    stops working. I mean it hasn't so far, but if it does I'll be cutting
    back on the 5-HTP/Weed combo and save it for good times. Thanks, peace.

    I have no idea, but I have found that 5-HTP make weed very intense.

    swim's girlfriend says the opposite is true for her. she takes 200mg of 5-htp per day and has noticed that since starting the 5-htp treatment, it is more difficult for her to get good and stoned.

    200mgs per day is too much, swim'd say.
    swim has found that taking 100 mg approx 1-2 hrs before smoking makes him feel like a pot virgin after smoking a spliff. funtastic!

    SWIM used to take 5-HTP but found it made no difference with smoking.

    From a scientific standpoint 5-htp has been shown to prevent the loss of shortterm memory effects caused by Marijuana, probably would help with mood problems caused by pot and increase the sleepy time effects..

    most of these type "trip or high boosters" are largely placebo... 5htp being a seretonin pre-cursor and processed into seretonin it is unlikely that twenty minutes after taking it that it would have an effect...

    Swim feels that 5htp is a good sleep aid and mood leveler but in normal recommended doses.

    I've read some monkeys claim that Melatonin (closely related if I'm not mistaken) increases MJ high and makes it a smoother relaxing ride and also it's said to help MJ "withdrawal" and cravings.

    There is some evidence of MJ increasing melatonin levels so maybe MJ could lead to some melatonin depletion and 5htp could help in that matter??

    SWIM tells me he didn't feel anything differents after a week suplementing himself with 5 mg melatonin at bed time. SWIM smokes daily.

    Be careful taking melatonin recreationally--in SWIM's experience, too much of it has given him good, deep sleep (especially his first time), and many more times has left SWIM unable to fall back asleep in the morning, cranky, hot, eh. The night before, however, it always has subtle effects on his senses: a feeling of loss of sensation in the body (this only happens if SWIM is going into "sleep mode", lying in the dark, etc, a bit after taking the melatonin), and overall patterns in his dark visual snow--he can't remember right now entirely what it is, but something shifts a specific way in it every time.

    5-HTP really helps for sleeping, you begin to develop a [SIZE=-1]circadian [/SIZE]rhythm meaning you will have a more restful sleep.
    When SWIM takes 100mg before smoking MJ the stone definitely feels stronger and seems to last longer.

    SWIM found that 5HTP made his weed sessions much more intense. Yet he often has diffuculties falling asleep after using 5HTP on its own. When he does however his dreams are expecially vivid.

    Bobbers woke up a little dehydrated and miserable (he'd had another bout with the bottle the previous day). No energy, pessimistic, very uncomfortable and unable to fall back asleep.

    Enter 5-HTP and some mids (MJ).

    He took the 5-HTP on an empty stomic, and within 20 minutes his head seemed to clear up. No depression, a bit more alert, and he's now able do handle his pessimistic thoughts with emotional balance.

    Half hour after taking 5-HTP he smoked about half a bowl of some mids. For the first time in quite a while Bobber has a bit of euphoria from MJ.

    A complete 180 from when he first woke up, and he thinks he has 5-HTP to thank for it. He does not think the MJ would have done this alone. It seldom does for Bob.

    Bob even has the munchies a bit.

    5-HTP stands for 5-HydroxyTryptophan, which is a precursor to 5-HT (serotonin).

    Your body produces 5-HTP from L-tryptophan (an essential amino acid) with the enzyme Tryptophan Hydroxylase. 5-HTP is then converted to 5-HT with the enzyme Amino Acid Decarboxylase.

    A couple of days ago swim took some 75mg of HTP. About one hour later he was feeling very good, and euphoric. Then he smoke some weed, the usual amout he does smoke, and got very high. Swim got even a bit frightened, like he felt the first time he smoked (He used to think he would never experience this again). When the high weared off, swim felt asleep and slept a lot more than usual.
    So, in swims experience, 5-HTP actually enhances the weeds high.

    Swim takes 100mg 5htp twice daily for 3 months and also has been trying to quite MJ on and off for the last year at least. This recent quit has lasted about 3 months for swim since he started taking the 5-htp. Well swim has been smoking small amounts of weed now for 1 week and continuing to take 5-htp as recommended by a CCN. Anyway he notices profound difference the high. Its just better from just a few hits. He thinks there's less paranoia with the high. Hes quite more then 3 months before and restarted without this good results. Swim is already noticing the negatives coming from starting smoking pot again and has to quite again for a job thing. But being high this time around seems happier to him this time around. Maybe swims sensitive but he notices that there's more anxiety laziness and plain wanting to hit the bowl when he first wakes up.

    Weed is definitely addicting! he went months at a time without it and still starts up again. He's quit opiates for 2 years now with no relapse. He was only hooked on those for 2 years also.

    Swim says weed makes you depressed because he thinks it release serotonin depleting it over time. So swim thinks yall should research it first then consider trying 5htp but only for a month at a time a few months out a year, or L-tryptophan.

    Swim takes this because he could not sleep he took a neurotransmitter test. Turned out he was severely low in serotonin and gaba, which are relaxing NT that are involved in sleep. No wounder swim liked xanax for sleep and anxiety. So he takes 5-htp along with taurine and L-theanine and a good multivitamin OH and omega 3 fatty acids and hes doing better.

    OMEGA 3's i wanted to say something about those. Every one should take it every single day! Not that it will have and immediate effect BUT what it does is makes your body's own cannabinoids also it is turned into brain connections and neurotransmitter receptor sites. Swims Hypothesis is that maybe it replaces old receptor sites so they become like virgin, so now when you release serotonin from smoking weed that receptor is more virgin to serotonin so it feels better. But he could be wrong.

    Yea your right. 5-htp actauly is damn strong the first time you take it. your body gets more used to it over time. Swim didn't want to smoke when he first started taking it. Ya i know its hard not to smoke swim was on a mission. He was afraid to mix them. So he would'nt recomend taking 5-htp then smoking right after being yuor first time taking 5htp. Maybe only take it at night after your done smokeing weed. And give it a few weeks to month to see if you see results. Then come tell me cuz id like to know. PEACE
