    Amphetamine tolerance question?

So, a friend of a friend got 5 MG D-amphetamine salts prescribed to him (by his general practitioner) to be taken twice daily. After a while, (a week and a half, maybe two) he noticed that the pills weren't really helping him focus anymore. He talked to his doctor about this, but refused to change the prescription unless seen by a therapist first. Understandable. Because seeing a therapist is out of the question, (financial problems) my friend then found a "reliable source" to supply him with 30 MG adderall XR.
His last dose was about 70MG (he's 18 and weighs 190). Considering he's been taking the adderall XR everyday (with the 5MG d-amphets for a little "boost") for maybe almost two weeks (never going over 90 MGs) if he quits cold turkey for about a week, would his tolerance level decrease? By how much? What would he have to do to help his body reduce tolerance?

Hi there! From personal experience I have found that even taking the weekend off of my meds (40mg Adderall XR prescribed for ADHD) does have an effect on my tolerance. After two days without amphetamines my tolerance seems to go down due to the fact that I can physically feel when the medication feels in, I experience a drier mouth than usual, and I occasionally become very shaky. This diminished the second day and is barely noticeable the third day back on them. I cannot say for sure but from personal experience my tolerance decreases by 5 to 10mg a day. (Thats just me it may differ for you)

That being said, everyones body chemistry, metabolism, and general health can effect how the drug is tolerated. Unfortunately, as with many drugs, a tolerance will be built no matter what, but there are things you can do to prevent it from building to quickly. Taking the minimum dosage for what you need to focus is always optimal, starting with an increased dosage won't help you in the long run. Also, if there is a day where you don't need to be as concentrated take only half. It will give your body a bit of time to relax without the high dosage of amphetamines coursing through it.

Hopefully this answered your question !

Amphetamine tolerance rises fast, especially at the dosage this foaf is taking. Stopping for a week will definitely decrease tolerance but it is impossible to say how much.

The best thing he can do to help keep tolerance down is to not take it everyday. Not taking it on the weekend or taking it every other day. Maybe even reduce the dosage a little can help, that is if any of these options are viable for him considering work and or school.
