Drug info - Alkaloid Content of Various Psilocybin Mushroom Species

    Psilocybin was first isolated in 1958 by Hofmann et al from Psilocybe mexicana. It was identified as the phosphoric acid ester of 4-hydroxy-dimethyltryptamine.

    Psilocin (4-hydroxy-dimethyltryptamine) was first isolated and identified in trace amounts from Psilocybe mexicana.

    Baeocystin is the monomethyl analogue of psilocybin. It was first isolated from Psilocybe baeocystis by Leung and Paul in 1968, and has since been found in other species of mushroom.

    Norbaeocytsin is the demethyl analogue of psilocybin. It was first isolated from Psilocybe baeocystis by Leung and Paul in 1968, and has since been found in other species of mushroom.

    Aeruginascin is the trimethyl analogue of psilocybin, and was named from the mushroom species in which it was identified by Gartz and Jensen - Inocybe aeruginascens. To the best of my knowledge, this substance only occurs naturally in this species.

    • If you are able to find information (preferably referenced) on the alkaloid content of an active mushroom species not already listed, please post the information here or send me a direct message.

    • If you are able to find information (preferably referenced) on the levels of one of the 'less common' alkaloids (such as norbaeocystin) in a species, this would be highly valuable as well.

    • Also very helpful would be to upload the studies cited to the file archive, so they can be linked from the table.
    Some of this information does require quite a bit of digging, and access to Pubmed or other online journal systems would definitely be an advantage here. Of course, your efforts will be rewarded as well.
