Does anyone know what beer has the highest alcohol per volume? I love guiness but I was shocked to find it only has around 4% alcohol!

Some real ales can get up to about 11% - that's the most I've seen. They tend to be pretty rare though -strong beers usually are more like 7-8%. The highest you could possibly get is 14% - above that the concentration of alcohol kills the yeast and fermentation ceases.

40 oz have a high alcohol content i would go with something like colt 45

    1. 3/5,
How does a 40oz alone have a higher alcohol content??? I can see how the brand could give a higher content but not cause it's a 40oz

    I think 5-7% for beer,

    something like 14-17% for wine.

It's federally regulated so there's probably a listing
somewhere. I've just got no time to hunt it down.

I think I'm right in saying that any beer stronger than 14% must have been fortified in some way (extra alcohol added after the fermentation process had ended). That doesn't make them any less drinkable though!!

    guinness extra stout is 8.6.

guinness draught is a crappy beer specially engineered for crappy american tastes (the same which proclaim that horse piss budweiser the "king" of beer) so it of course has between 3 - 4% alcohol by volume, in addition to having its natural carbonation removed and having a shitty fucking nitrogen containing ball replace it.

Canadian Molson Ice contains 10.6% by volume although I think its sugar brewed. not malt. tisk tisk.Edited by: allyourbase

Canadian Molson Ice is only 5.5% ABV last time I checked. Their Dopplebock is around 6%, but thats the strongest beer they make.

There are a number of "extreme beers" popping up, but many are expensive, so it would be cheaper to just drink the common beers. They taste better for the most part to. Recently I have been getting more premium beers, which are around 5-8%. Good stuff! My latest recommendation would be anchor porter, a very good American porter. Warsteiner is another recent one for me. It's a very decent German pilsner. I think it's definately overpriced though. Don't buy that Harp shit that Guiness makes! Drink budweiser if you wanna drink crappy beer, you'll save $$$.

yeah there are a few beers with ~23% alcohol, but they cost ~18-20 dolalrs a bottle. i would def just go with drinking more of the cheaper beers, or switch to liquor. although i work at a Dogfish Alehouse and there are tons of people that come in and spend hundreds of dolalrs on the higher alcohol percentage beers, i guess its up to ur tastes.
