I was wondering about the situation in CA:

    1. Someone claimed that there's about 1/3 as many MJ sites in SF as Starbucks. True? And are they all "med MJ" sites that require a scrip?

    2. So, it's legal statewide but illegal federally. What is required to buy here? Scrip? Residency? what else?

    3. Is there any way for an out-of-stater to access this bud?

    4. Noticed in "prices" that CA isn't appreciably lower than anywhere else. This defies economics: less risk should require less reward. Has having to compete with "legal" MJ dried up the illegal supply?

Anything else I should pass on to SWIM? Thx, THIYa'll.

MJ is NOT legal in California, however it IS legal for medical use, and is much more TOLORATED then any other state . . . though oregon and washington are not far behind.

There is a HUGE market both on the medical scene and the black-market scene, in california... probably bigger market than any other state. At the medical clubs, you will need your card which you can usually obtain from a doctor that the club will send you to. Sometime you can get away without showing your card at some of the clubs. (wont say which ones, cause we dont need them into any more trouble.) The prices in southern california are usually higher then anywhere else, because it's southern california and every thing is high priced. Just 7 hours up the road in northern california however you can find some of the lowest prices in the world. read: grower capital of north america.

The reason prices are high still is because most users, including medical users still get their green outside of the clubs. At the clubs, you will understand why prices vary. One club in particular offers differant qualities ranging in price from really low to really high prices.

In california you can obtain all differant qualities ranging in price, and because of some of the extreme quality of the better indoor medical buds, the price is higher then most the country would ever see ... but the quality is as well.

So ... to sum up ... marijuana is still illegal in california, but is pretty well tolorated. Medical marijuana is legal, but requires a script, and in some cases residency (which can be forged.) There is not a club on every corner, but there are a few dozen still around. Out of staters can easily obtain an "address" via friends or just kind people letting you get an id with their address on it. medical cards can be obtained from doctors the the club will send you to. Prices vary, but are high... but so is the quality.

Oh, on legality. There are a few places, like Mendacino that have "green laws" in effect that basicly make it legal on the county/city level for each resident to possess up to a year supply (25 plants or 25 lbs) lol . . . but becareful, the feds are still cracking down on it. Black helicopters and shit.

sorry for the unorganized ramblings of this stoner... a very good strain today :)

Thx man. I did a little research (that he should have done beforehand) and found out that SF issues "permits" to use that require doctors advisement, proof of residency (that could be a photoshopped utility bill), but, alas, you must wait something like 30 days to get it. Probably for just this reason.

Also it said that <1 oz is like a $100 fine, and you can get it expunged if you claim to be a "sick, sick addict" and do the 12-step thing for a while. With penalties that low, SWIM figures he'll just buy illegally--27g at a time.

    But just in case,

-Just what illnesses suggest MJ treatment? I like his booze; would claiming "alcoholism" work?

    - I know you don't want to get a *particular* club in trouble, but if SWIM were to hit, say, 10 facilities, show the utility bill, scrip, and "I'm still waiting," what would be the odds of getting service?

Odds are good. And most commonly, they diagnose your chronic pain or nausea.

Keep in mind, the farther you go north the more laid back the clubs are and prices since huboldt and mendacino county's are the growing point in most cases.

OK. A person who wants to know how things are in California.

Bcubed has heard: "SF issues "permits" to use that require doctors advisement, proof of residency (that could be a photoshopped utility bill), but, alas, you must wait something like 30 days to get it."

    It's sort-of right.

    Med Pot 101

A person thinks he may qualify to be a Med Pot patient.
He makes an appointment with a Pot Doc (and brings-in his Med file).
If that Doctor thinks you qualify, he writes-out a Recommendation to use Med Pot. You walk out of the office with your Rec.
This document (the Rec) is all you need.
This provides you all of the protection against being prosecuted for possession of Pot, or smoking Pot in public.

There is a supplemental document you can buy, if you want.
A County (like S F, for instance) can issue a State ID card.
This card proves that you possess a valid Rec from a Doctor.
This prevents arrest, by a Cop who (might) think that your Rec is a forgery.
Only about 3% of the Med Pot patients even have one. I don't have one.

If a Cop comes up to you, just show him your ID card, and he will leave you, and your Medicine, in peace.

Many of the people who have this card, use it because they are growing their own Medicine.
This way, if a Cop happens to see your Garden, a quick peek at the ID card will calm him down.

Well SWIM can persoanlly say its very easy to get a med card... he himself does not have one but many of his highschool friends do, and they have no real legitamte use for it besides recreation... so as u can see its very easy to get a card.
