An acquaintance has obtained 8mg suboxone film strips and wonders whether they can be cut with scissors into 4 equal pieces and use these smaller pieces for tapering off. Anyone know?

I once heard of someone doing this. They had the 8mg strips as well. They would cut them in half. They said it worked, one half was equal in potency to the other. This would lead one to believe that the bupe is evenly distributed throughout the strip.

So cutting it in fourths should work just fine, just make sure to keep the unused portion sealed. I would assume back in the original packaging, that put that in a plastic baggie or wrap it in plastic wrap.

Not sure that the dose would be equal, once cut into four portions. I know that cutting nicotine patches is advised against, because the dose will not be equal. If this is standard advisory, then I can't see why buprenorphine patches would be any different.

I would agree that cutting patches of anykind would not be a good idea. But the op is not asking about patches, he is asking about the 8mg sublingual films or "strips". Although you do make a good point about patches, it is the strips that are being discussed.

They call them strips because that is exactly what they are. Kind of similar to those Listerine breath freshening strips. They are a paper thin film that is used in place of suboxone pills. They dissolve much faster than the pills and don't taste quite as bad. They are also supposed to have less potential for abuse.
