1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

    Re: Smoking with herpes

The chances of passing on any infection are extremely tiny, unless the other person has open wounds or sores of their own.
Every one of us has the herpes simplex virus in the form of coldsores, which are highly contagious when open sores.

A good stop might be a specialised GUM (genito-urinary medicine) clinic, available at most hospitals and some family planning clinics.

    Re: Smoking with herpes

Researching the web tells me that herpes is indeed extremely common but the information presented causes me some confusion. E.g. http://www.herpes.org.uk/
says that not everyone carries this virus, 70 percent have it & around 10 percent have genital herpes. Its so common that if you have normal relationships you will probably acquire it in some form. But if you look at different types of herpes the infection rate is almost universal.
Although at this time it cannot be eradicated the body does deal with it effectively most of the time. It seems that it is more normal to have it than not. It has been stigmatized in the past. As the above site says we acquire other viruses that become a permanent part of us and no one worries about those.

Cold sores / herpes simplex virus is only contagious if the person has an outbreak. When someone has an outbreak, then HSV is highly contagious and sharing of joints and pipes is not advisable. When there is no outbreak (no sores) then it is generally not contagious.

According to a post I found on www.herpesdoctor.com, you CANNOT pass on Herpes to someone else without directly contacting them. Here is the quote:

If you are still concerned, use a lighter to quickly burn the end of the pipe before inhaling. Personally, my friend SWIM would still not take the risk, it it really isn't worth the consequences. Just roll 2 joints and smoke them together! :D

Also, just because there is not a CURRENT outbreak does NOT mean it isnt contagious:
