Comedown - Cocaine/Alcohol, night sweats, insomnia

    SWIM just woke up three or four hours after doing cocaine/alcohol, with overheating and night sweats. SWIM's heart rate was up to 130 or 140, and was drenched in sweat. SWIM's calmed down now (90 bpm) but having trouble sleeping. He ingested about seven beers and 0.3 grams of cocaine and weighs 150lb.

    SWIM's wondering if this normal (probably is) and if he can take 1mg ativan to help sleep.

    You can definately get insomnia from using cocaine. You didn't ingest a large amount unless it was really good and you did it all at once. It can also raise BP and heart rate. Since you've been drinking and apparently sweating really hard, my advise is to try to drink a sufficient amount of water. You are probably dehydrated now. You need to think less about sleeping and more about your body.

    As long as you don't have any pre-existing insomnia problems, my bet is that you will be able to sleep in a couple hours. Cool yourself off and drink water.

    Have something salty to eat with protein as well. That will help

    Unless SWIY is an occasional user, 0.3 grams really isn't that much, so taking an ativan would definitly help and I believe it is safe. SWIM has done it frequently.

    SWIM also got used to sleeping with cocaine. The trick is not to worry too much about the insomnia and rapid heart beat and change sleeping position every 5 seconds.

    Thanks for the advice. I ended up toughing it out, drank a lot of water and ate some roast beef. Passed out in a few hours and woke up feeling not too shabby.
