I've heard that the main reason for feeling down between periods of doing coke is because of drops in seratonin levels...

I've just gone through a few weeks of not doing any (feels like longer) and i've definately been depressed and apathetic...

I'm thinking that maybe if i were to take some prozac or something similar every now and then, that it could help me feel better AND help me not NEED to go out and score to get me through....

Doeas anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks

Anytime I'm away from coke the only thing that seems to get me through the day is weed.I got to have one or the other, and it's usually coke that I pick but when you dont have any, weed is always nice and puts ya in good happy mood.(For me atleast)

Or maybe talk to your doctor about getting put on anti-depressant's.I don't think the prozac is any good.Takes like 15 days for it start working once it gets in your system n shit..You should go for the Benzo's.It's got a nice buzz to it,and makes ya feel real gooood.

prozac really wouldnt help because cocaine afects your dopamine levels, so what helps me out is wellbutrin, which is an anti depressatn that controls your dopamine and norepineiphren or whatever you spell that, I also am on effexor... so thats about it.....

Klonopin and xanax are the only kind of benzoo's I've taken.

Whats the best benzoo out there,in everybody's opinion? How would one go about getting a script? Talk to your doctor or what? Would insurance cover it? Thanks

The best benzo to take would be Luvox, however the only problem with most benzos is that You have to take them for a least 2-3 weeks before you see any progress. This is due to the build up of Plasma levels in your head.

the link between coke and dopamine is minor, it actually effects the noradrenaline/norepinephrine levels...It could be effecting the seratonin, but only as a side effect of the other interactions. The norepinephrine (like in my science post) is responsible for alertness etc. When on coke u are using more than u need, when you come down or stop usingcoke for a while your brain is resensitised to the norepinephrine levels, and starts taking in more and using less. So rather than being as alert as u are normally you are way less alert, makingyou feel tired, yet possibly not sleepy. If it was seratonin you would be narcoleptic when being off coke. to summarize [norepinephrine=tired , seratonin=sleepy]

The apathy and depression are caused by the combination of tolerance built in the septum(in the brain, feelings of security and coke euphoria) and your brain is not using enough noradrenaline. So its like you've been up for 2 days with out the seratonin sleepiness.

Idon't know how most of the prescription drugs work, but in order to counter this they would have to work a lot like coke. Some site said there was no drugs on the market to curb coke addiction, so u might have to improvise. Ritalin would get the alertness back, and eliminate some of the apathy.A drug for the depression would behard to find because prozac ,zoloft and the rest of those treat depression caused by lack of some other chemical which id have to look up in my psychology book which is not here right now.

Jalpa you don't know what your talking about. Benzo's don't take 2-3 weeks too affect you. The first pill you take will hit you in 15 minutes. I've been taking klonopins for 3 years and I have too warn ya'll peeps that benzo's will f**k you up if you take em for too long and you'll go through a pretty severe withdrawal. Just be careful, or just say f**k it and stay HigH

Thanks everyone... beenthroughit, that was VERY thorough, I appreciate the effort.

I guess I'll just tough it out for now... I just refuse to use coke to fix this feeling thatit obviously caused. I love doing it, but i don't want to get in too deep, y'know? thats why I was taking a break in the first place.

Yeah brave I was gonna say something too but I'm glad you said something.I think he might have been talkin about prozac, zoloft, and shit like that. Those pills take a couple weeks before you start noticing any effects.I like taking benzo's when I'm coming down from coke.My sleeping pattern is totally f**ked up.I think I'm an insomniac or something.Even whenIm notusing any coke I'll still be up all night. But I guess I'm just a night owl.I've been like this for awhile now.

OK, BENZO'S - help me with the terminology since I'm still such a coke virgin: what are those?I'm on effexor - recently off 80mg prozac as it stopped working for me. Only been on effex. for a week, suffer from depression to begin with.

Benzo is slang for Benzodiapines. They are the total opposite of coke.Coke is an upper and Benzo's are downers. They are prescribed to people who show signs of depression and anxiety. They also take the "edge" off when coming down from coke.Thats why I like them.

Man twig70, I am so anti-effexor....that is possibly the worst anti-depressant/muscle relaxant on the market. MOst doctors don't even research it enough to know that its extremely addictive. My mom has been taking it for about a year and if she stops she goes nuts....no further description needed. I dunno about other still, i gotta research them

But anyways...I would ask for an alternative immediately to effexor....ive seen this take someone to a mental clinic for a week due to withdrawls

Okay,
I know this is a really old post, but it really pisses me off when
people get all crazy about anti-depressants and other psych meds.

Change "effexor" to, say, "insulin" - if someone's diabetic and is supposed to
take insulin and misses a dose...what do you think would happen?
And if they went off of it and didn't replace it with an alternative,
I'd expect they'd land in a hospital too!

You can debate whether or not anti-depressants are over-prescribed, but if
you're someone who needs them and just stops taking it, of course you'd
have issues. You're not addicted, just like someone with diabetes
isn't "addicted" to insulin - you're DEPENDANT upon it because your
body doesn't make it's own and you're taking the medication to fix that
issue.

1. 3/5,
Very, very true. This information should be better known by everybody. It is unsafe to demonise anti-depressants in such a way; people who need them may be discouraged from taking them. Well done for saying so.

Well, I started using prozac back in the day and then when I finally started to use....certain drugs, the prozac wouldn't work....My therapist told me that when I was using coke a lot, that my prozac wouldn't been affective...

Benzo's do not treat depression, and start working as soon as they start to digest. They treat anxiety/panic/nervous dissorders.

You are thinking of ssri's when you talk of prozac. Ssri's take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to start noticing any effects.

If people are going to post information on this site, please do not just guess. Take the time to research, and post accurately so the info going out is accurate. Otherwise, please DO NOT waste anyone's time. Guessing can possibly hurt someone.

exactly - there are different kinds of medication for depressionand, obviously, not all of them are good!i'm pretty familiar withSeroxat - i always come back to it somehow - and recently i've read about the research that on younger peopleSeroxat actually may cause the opposite effect - make them more tensed and nervous... Now i'm blaming my bad moodsonit... he-he - black humor...[IMG]

I dont really have access to downers or antideps most of the time, so
when i blow i try to have at least a bowl pack of weed for when im done
and really needing more. the next day smoking weed really helps
out. the next day when i feel really bad i usually chill by
myself and deal with it because i look at it as i had a hell of a lot
of fun the night before and i need to deal with the
consequences...always know as high as you want to go, youre going to be
exponentially lower the next day
