When can I tell to change the screen? Is it better to use a lot or a
little screen? Has anybody tried any other brands besides choreboy? I saw some
steel, rather then copper choreboy, are those better? And what's up
with putting cig ashes in? Why not a joint ash? What's the purpose?
What's the best heat source? I've been told a little heat and a slow
draw is best, but more heat gives a more intense hit. Any suggestions
on how to make it last longer, get higher, or get a more powerful hit?</span></span>

    Start by getting good coke.

Ash is not necessary and is only used if you DON'T
    have a screen.

Your basic disposable lighter should be sufficient
heat source. A lot of them are cheap and quality
varies from lighter to lighter, so test each one for
ease of use and height of flame before buying. If the
flame is small (1/2 inch high), don't buy.

A one inch flame is perfect.

ALWAYS use copper brillo. Cut a section out, then
heat it with a lighter to burn off all of the factory
impurities on the metal. You will be able to see and
smell them as they burn away.

The screen should be about 3/4 inch long (after
packed) in a standard stem (glass with 1/2 inch O/D,
    -outside diameter).

The best push stick is a metal rod because it
scrapes well, too. But you can cut section from a wire
    hanger as a push.

Use a dental pick as a screen remover.
When it gets hard to draw a newly loaded hit, you
may find it useful to remove the screen and break it
up, then reload the screen and hit.

It might surprise you to discover how much resin is
left over, and pins or tacks can also be used to help
loosen a tightly bundled (or otherwise clogged)
    screen.

If you REALLY want to get more out of your smoke
then take large hits and exhale into a plastic bag to
save as next hit.Edited by: woodman

my guess would be because the impurities dont burn off like the copper ones.. but hey give it a try and see if u can smell the impurities burning off

I've been using the stainless for about 5 years no problems. It doesn't get as tight and compacted together like the copper. Burn baby burn !!!!

When you are using brillo, hold it onto a knife or something of that
sort and burn the shit out of it. the impurities will burn away and
leave you with a black ball. wash off the ball with some water or
whatever and let it dry. this is fine to use to smoke.

Tonight i was puffing away on some rocks i cooked myself (nice yellow stuff).
I smoke with a glass stem and stainless steal scrubber for a screen.
After smoking a bunch in my stem i usually push the screen to the other side and get a fat resin blast.
Tonight i decided to load a rock and instead of sucking the flame in i held the fire to the glass just back from the melted rock and got the screen cooking hot and started to hit it.... After a couple puffs i put the flame to the front of the pipe and sucked the flame in a few more times... I got the fattest hit of my life it was awesome..
Has anyone else tried this before?
If not you should give it a go

Crack burning instead of vaporising is most important. My dog saw a 50% decrease of rocks needed when trying the following:

Small rocks instead of 1 big one.
Move the lighter around (and up and down if the flame is big).
Big flame? Suck real hard to keep the temperature low.
When the rock/ashes are glowing (orange), remove lighter for a short period of time.

I personally think it has to do with the quality you are given. Bad stuff will burn fast and good stuff will burn for a long time.

Otherwise if you put a big rock in and melt it, don't have it all at once have a few puffs then let it crystallize again and go again. Seems to last longer

newbie my ass! so you know how to cook your own perfect yellow rocks, and then accidentally discover the optimal way to take a crack hit?! *golf clap* ...

no, it really does make quite a difference though, in quality, strength, and overall enjoyment of the hit when you vaporize it correctly as opposed to burning and smoking the cut also, which may produce a "harsh" with negative or undesirable effects.
