Damiana leaves I never hear very much about.. swim's thinking about trying to smoke them (read on net of recorded experiences with that) b/c she's looking for an alternative to MJ.. It doesn't have a distinctive smell she's heard and supposedly gives you a high sort of like mild salvia? Swim's not sure- she's heard of people just going to the little mexican stores and picking up a bag of the leaves and making tea, etc.. Supposed to increas libido as well? I was wondering if swiy's has tried out Damiana and liked it? Or could explain what it's effects feel like?

SWIm would say it's a waste of money. The leaves smell great but let me tell you: Smoking it is not pleasant at all. And, of course, it is in no way whatsoever to be considered as a substitute of anything. No effects at all!

The tea is better tasting but it lacks psychoactive effects beyond mild relaxation. It might have some sort of libido enhancement for SWIM but he isn't sure if it was placebo.

A rasping, choking, bleary-eyed placebo with shades of hyperventilation. Usually found along with 14 year old boys in the bushes outside shopping malls.

Damiana makes a decent herbal tobacco alternative, an aquired taste that some like, some don,t. It is a good texture to roll / smoke / burn.
It is often considered a womens herb. While I has never felt any effect from smoking he knows a few ladies who greatly enjoy its mild effects.
I found making a tea with 20 grams Damiana and 20 grams of
Catnip to provide a nice mild relaxing high.
Others have reported good aphrodisiac effects from making a strong tea and leaving it to soak overnight.
It can also be steeped in vodka to make a Damiana liquor.
It is said to work as a tonic to the sex organs, best used daily for at least a week. Damiana is generally considered a very safe herb to use so swim recomends giving it a try, however there is some speculation that heavy longterm use may be harmfull to the liver.

Damiana surely is no placebo. A damiana tea made by soacking 30 grams ovenight, is far from smooth in taste, but I can recommend this as a very nice aphrodisiac. Damiana has a stronger effect on woman, than men.

It was sold years ago as a marijuana substitute to gullible kids through ads in High Times in the 1970's. It was for smoking, not tea. Poor kids. Probably just as well they didn't make tea. We would have ended up with more kids smoking it in the bushes!

Haha. In Holland we use it as a tabbacco substitute, to mix our weed with. Although it has some mild psychoactive qualities when smoked it does not come close to cannabis.

I think the problem with many of these mildly psychoactive herbs (Damiana, skullcap, passion flower, catnip, wild lettuce etc) is they have been marketed as Cannabis alternatives, so people expect a decent high from smoking a joint and feel dissapointed and ripped off when their promissed high fails to arrive.
The reality is most do give a mild high, but a strong tea (15-30 grams) is the way to achieve the effects, perhaps with a joint of the stuff smoked as well for good measure.
Most of these herbs do seem to potentiate each other SLIGHTLY.
They definetly stretch swims weed out if hes running low;)

swim greatly appreciates all the info from everybody, thankyou! ;) As it would come to serve, I would've been very dissapointed (smoking it, anyway- she loves however a good cup of tea).. she was getting the impression that it was a possible MJ alternative... but a bit of libido enhancement sounds wonderful, she's always looking for those kinds of things as well. :)

So I suppose it wouldn't hurt to roll some into my cigs once and a while...

1:40-1:45 - Swim vaporizes 1 bowl of Damiana. Little to no effects evident.

1:45-1:55 - Swim vaporizes a 2nd bowl. in total about .5g were vaporized.

    1:50-2:10
    - mild visuals
    a) shadows seem a bit different, emphasizing the change in colour rather than just the shade of the shadow.
    b) very very VERY slight pixelation of objects, especially with colours.
    c) some things seems to vibrate/shake, similar to how a guitar string looks after its been plucked, but applied to an object at a low level.
    d) movement in peripheral vision.
    e) things seem to lift/rise when you look at them.
    - more clumsy when typing. (right NOW!)
    - mind seems easily distracted and more jumpy.
    - when Swim vaporizes this her front bottom lip always tingles. (Swim also notices this when smoking MJ mixed with Damiana)
    - tingling body feeling especially in the hands and feet.
    - body feels a bit heavy.

2:10-3:00 effects gradually declining. Mild headache from 2:30-2:50.

Swim thinks this experience is similar to smoking a small bowl of 5x Salvia (the head/body feeling, NOT the visuals). except, a Salvia trip lasts longer.

ALL OF THESE EFFECTS WERE MILD. Swim just wanted to give a detailed description for an experience with this substance.

overall, you can function completely normally, nothing is overpowering. Just a bit of a head buzz, and slight confusion; the visuals are noticable in shady/darker places, possibly not as evident outside, or even in a more lighted room.

interesting tid bit - Swim ate some chocolate shortly after vaporizing Damiana and it tasted pretty gross. the Damiana taste will stay in your mouth for a while, and it makes the chocolate taste a bit like rotten raisins (if such a thing exists). SO, if you do eat, eat something very sour, Swim thinks that would over power the taste.

Swim loves damiana. I use it as a general relax aid in any situation. Damiana is NOT a placebo. It has definite effects. Swim usually makes some tea and smokes some later in the day to relax.

SWIM made a tea of Damiana, using 5 grams. It smelled nice but was very bitter. Added two teaspoons of sugar. Still gross but bearable. SWIM then smoked a bowl of damiana. No effects were noticed for two hours, so I took 100mg 5-htp. I had trouble falling asleep, but no effects were noticed. The trouble sleeping could've been due to a lazy day.

At least 5 hours prior to the tea, probably more, I had taken 100mg siberian ginseng and 100mg kola nut.

SWIM (male) tried it as aphrodisiac, did not work like countless other aphrodisiacs I tried, only one working really well without bad side effects is Tongkat Ali extract.

How did You consume the Damiana, tea or smoke? What dosage?

Tongkat Ali (also Yohimbe) are unique among aphrodisiac herbs in that they actually can cause a strong involuntary erection in a similar manner to viagra. Most other aphrodisiac herbs like damiana, muira puama etc seem to either work more as general tonics and / or increase pleasure, mood, body sensations and enjoyment.

In other words they are pleasure enhancers as opposed to performance enhancers, although long term use may also result in performance enhancement.

I have found damiana to be a nice thing.

Making tea from it is the best most effective way to get effects.

Use two heaping spoons of damiana to hot water. Let cool, then drink up! It's a great tasting tea.

After Swim drinks it he found that smoking a joint of it to add that final boost.

Mixing the joint with Kanna is an excellent mix. Similar to a few rips from old MJ.

Damiana Tea, is the way to be

2 would have to agree with you. 2 loves his Damiana tea before bed, mixed with a few other Ethno's it's quite tasty and definitely has libido enhancing qualities.

2 will have to get a hold of some Kanna, though. XD

Swim enjoys damiana liqueur, probably very weak solution, but the drunk was rather enjoyable and different from normal for him. Tastes great and makes a good margarita.

Damiana imho is like a mixing herb. If you SWIM smokes it with weed, a different high. I dont remember what it exactly felt like, but since you mix it, your smoking less mj, so the likelihood of the placebo effect is low. SWIM's a regular pot user so they like this, saves them mj!
You should also look into wild dagga, it actually does feel like mj, no joke.
This info comes from SWIM's own personal experience

2 would also have to doubt the placebo effect. These herbs are fairly strong but nothing near Cannabis in potency or effect. 2 does love mixing these with the good ol' ganja, specifically the Damiana, Lion's Tail (Wild Dagga), Indian Warrior (Pedicularis Densiflora) and Skullcap. Each have their own unique flavour and effect that help potentiate/add to Cannabis's already unique effects.

I think Thirdedge was right in saying that the problem with these herbs is people go into them expecting cannabis highs. There is, alas, only one cannabis.
That said, damiana smells great and, tempered with other herbs, can be a nice smoke, with a very mild effect of its own. It will make a joint burn more evenly. Or just shove your face in the bag and smell it. Mmmmm...
But too many herbs get a bad rap because they can't live up to cannabis. They deserve respect in their own right. I mean, should we all say that tea is bunk, because if you smoke it it doesn't get you ripped?
