My cat has been very interested to know this... Would any drug in that class show up for it?

It's a adrenergic alpha-2 agonist. The only other ones are xylazine (veterinary use only), flexeril, precedex, tenex or lofexidine.

    Meow (thanks)

    Nobody has any ideas? Thoughts?

I'm confused on the situation and the exact question. Could swiy please elaborate?

Is this a therapeutic monitoring test? Why would swiy be getting a test for Clonidine? If this is for therapeutic monitoring then it would be a very specific test that would only detect Clonidine.

Not therapeutic monitoring. A friend of mine has been accused of faking a condition by her doctor so he is testing her for clonidine. She doesn't take clonidine but has been known to take flexeril (not to fake her condition, but to relieve muscle cramps) and is concerned that it is going to come back positive.

I see. Well, I work in a drug testing laboratory and I have no reason to believe flexeril would cause a false positive for clonidine. Typically the tests for drugs such as clonidine are highly specific. They may detected the drug (clonidine in this example) and metabolites of the drug and possibly other drugs that are chemically very similar. Though the latter is highly unlikely.

Irregardless, flexeril is too structurally different to cause a false positive for clonidine.

ahh, Kinda, sorta, not exactly. The only 'abuse' I know of concerning clonidine is it's use by heroin addicts to avoid certain negative symptoms of withdrawal.
