Drug info - DXM product labeled 'Non-narcotic formula' - ingredients?

    Ive read on alot of cough syrup packages that it is a "Non-narcotic formula" but it still has dextromethorphan hpr, so what was the original "narcodic"
    Just curious :p

    In the US most OTC cough medicines are labeled "non-narcotic". The ones with actual "narcotic" ingredients are not OTC but prescription meds.

    Years ago everything from codeine to heroin was part of the tasty syrups.
