The common factor was nitrous oxide.

N2O always seems to take the subject to the same place, eventually. Three bulbs send him back to "the source", or something like that. It doesn't seem to matter which other substances he is on; there is something about nitrous that seems to be programmed into the human experience.

The really strange part is how much N2O + DXM + THC felt like N2O + 5-MeO-DMT.

Two weeks prior, the subject had chased three bulbs of nitrous with ~20mg of 5-MeO-DMT. It was like a rocket out of reality: zero to infinity in six seconds.

Last night, the subject took 800mg DXM (10mg/kg, a 3rd-plateau dose). The subject in question has numerous DXM trips under his belt (including one visit to the fourth plateau), but had never had the opportunity to use cannabis with it.

    From the FAQ:

So, the subject wasn't sure what to expect. When the DXM peaked, he did three bulbs of N2O followed by two hits of high-grade cannabis followed by three more bulbs.

The result was nirvana. It was nearly indistiguishable from the previous N2O + 5-MeO-DMT, save one difference - acceleration. The 5-MeO-DMT experience was one of world-shattering acceleration. There was no time to think about it; all he could do was brace himself and enjoy the journey. The DXM + THC, on the other hand, was slower and more controllable. It didn't get quite "all-the-way" to where 5-MeO-DMT had taken him, but he felt that it could have had he pressed it. 5-MeO-DMT was the express train; DXM + THC was the scenic route.

Subsequent meditation led to two hours of sheer bliss that felt like days. It was one of the most alien and visual trips in his experience. It seemed as if his spirit was floating just outside of his real body for the entire time.

He wonders why the two experiences felt so similar. Was it just the nitrous? Something about dissociation that's programmed into the human nervous system? Something more?

    (Who can say?)
