The Golden Teacher strain, is a variation of psilocybe cubensis. Does anyone know what the difference in effect, duration is between this strain and other psilocybe cubensis strains?

my buddy has grown golden teacher cubensis recently.
he is also growing cambodian cubensis.

he says that the effects are different but it is pretty vague.

he didn't see any difference in duration of the effects but he did notice that golden teachers are more of a mental trip compared to the cambodians while the cambodians were a lot more clear headed and WAY more visual.

he truly could tell why they were called golden "teachers"...

golden teachers make you go into a deep trance that helps with self realization about your life. golden teachers have pretty good fractal visuals but their power of the mental state seems to be a lot more distracting than the visuals.

Golden Teacher Cubensis really do "teach" you

How reproductive are they? What I mean is, the penis envy is strong, but is very hard to reproduce with the same batch's spores. Are the Golden Teachers the same? Or do the readily repopulate?

my cat believes he has tried golden teachers at one point, but he couldn't be sure, as it was only what my cat's hoodlum hippie told him

compared to other no-name shrooms my cat took, he noticed no difference, which he supposes could just mean that they weren't golden teachers and there was a difference, but my cat has always just figured that as its the same active ingredient, for lack of a better term, the experience will be very similar

my cat has always felt that things such as this, for example, other cats thinking "vodka drunk" and "gink drunk" are different, comes down to placebo, as the cats are still just ingesting the same chemical (although my cat does suppose that there is some difference in content between different strains). my cat could be wrong, though, as he hasn't tried lots of different species of mushrooms. just what he thinks.

The Dr. has never noticed any differences between Cubensis mushrooms that could be down to anything other than set and setting.
He has taken Golden teachers, B+, Ecuadorian, Thai, Indian and a host of other names several times each.
Each trip was pretty much the same in duration and strength, any differences were often felt when taking the same type from the same batch so he did not believe that he could actually say there is a difference in trip, be it visual or physical.

The Dr. hears a lot of talk about how a certain type of Cubenis is more visual but its usually from people who have only taken a certain type of mushroom once.
For example, If You takes a 2.0 gram dose of dried 'Golden Teachers' and has a trip that was more visual than the trip they had on 2.0 grams of 'Indian' cubensis it does not mean that Golden teachers are a more visual type of cubensis. All it means is that you had a more visual experience on that specific trip.

The same person could take the same dose from the same batch a few weeks later and have a trip that was less visual and more spiritual, or physical.

The Dr. is basing this on his own experiences with maybe a dozen trips of a dozen different named Psilocybe Cubensis, all grown under similar conditions and taken in similar surroundings.
His experiences are in now way an official finding regarding the differences in effects between mushrooms, but for him they have made him believe there is no difference that can not be accounted to set, setting, mood, time of year etc.

golden teachers are probably the easiest cube to "reproduce"

GT are def. less potent than PE but golden teachers are way more efficient than penis envys.

Ah yes... Whether or not there exist differences in the actual effects between different strains. An age old argument with die-hard supporters on both sides...

Those who claim that there are differences between the effects of different strains tend to argue these points:

From the evolutionary/biological standpoint, there is no reason why there wouldn't be any differences - The very nature of psilocybe cubensis (that it grows in many locations all over the world) predisposes it to have variety. With variations in morphology being common, it's logical to think that if there are physical differences, then there may be chemical deviation as well. Mushrooms are not just pure psilocybin crystals - There is an infinite number of combinations for the possible ratio and strength of psilocybin, psilocin, and baeocystin (as well as others, even a compound unrelated to psilocybin could have effects on its absorption, etc). This diversity, however slight they may be, could influence and change our subjective experience.

Most who argue differences between strains note that certain strains, such as Puerto Ricans and Penis Envy, tend to feel "very different", while others tend to only differ slightly.

Most of them note that they can feel differences between strains, but have a hard time pinpointing exact distinctions.

Those who claim that there are NOT differences between the effects of different strains tend to argue these points:

While it's true that different strains have phenotypical differences, they are all alike chemically. Different strains are not producing a different drug than the others. Of course the exact amount and ratio of the compounds varies, but they also vary in every individual mushroom as well, making it impossible to generalize entire strains which are in turn comprised of hundreds of substrains...

It's very easy to fool people who think they have a favorite strain, or think they can tell - For example, many have silently given others what they thought was a certain strain, but in fact was another, and they were completely oblivious to the fact that the strain had been switched.

Even with morphology, very few strains are clearly recognizable... Try running a "Guess the Strain" contest with photos. It's a total joke, people just keep on guessing until someone finally, through the process of elimination, gets it right. It's similar to when someone takes an unknown strain - they have no idea. Maybe they think they can tell, but a blind test would show that they cannot.

Most argue that sure, you feel may feel slight variances between strains, but each and every individual trip is different as well. And that is why there is ultimately no difference between the effects across various strains - They are all alike because they are all different.

So who is in the right here?

It's really hard to say for certain, but IMHO there are just way too many factors involved to make a solid definition of what kind of trip someone will get from a particular strain... Set, setting, genetics of the (sub)strain, genetics of the user, the unpredictability of mushroom trips in general, etc... They can all have a dramatic effect on the experience you will get, independent from strain.

Perhaps the biggest factor here is the placebo effect. If you consumed 5 different strains, but were told they were all the same, would you notice the difference? Or just chalk it up to the vast differences in mushroom experiences in general? Likewise, what if you consumed the same strain 5 times, but were told it was 5 unique strains, how would this mental association change your experience or your interpretation of the experience?

In that respect, perhaps mushrooms are an ultimate placebo - If you think they are different, then they are... If you don't, then they are not.

And as for the original question of the differences in effect of the Golden Teacher strain in particular...?

...It depends on who you ask.

    Peace,
    -PH

i think this often asked question is what makes psiocybe mushrooms so unique.
the differences will never have any solid information.

    its a mind altering substance.
the effects can take ANY turn into ANY direction
    same with the mushrooms themselves...

they all come in ALL different shapes, sizes, potency, weight, strain, variety...etc
this is just about all the information that can be given.
until one experiences its effects... ;)

Overall, I have had some very different trips from mushrooms.

The first time he tried them he had about 13.3g of "Mexican" Cubesnis, and 3.3g of "Hawaiian" mushrooms. This produced a spectacularly visual trip, with major colour changes, major trails and sometimes a complete loss on visual perspective. This is with fresh mushrooms.

The next time was with 30g of the "Mexican" Cubensis, and was entirely mental (with slight to no visual distortions). Again fresh mushrooms.

Also he had had the "Liberty Caps" a handful of times (in doses varying from small (1g) to large (5-6g)) and none of those times were anywhere near as visually spectacular in comparison to his first trip. These figures are for dried mushrooms.

Now of course this is not hard evidence but he thinks there are differences between strains, or that the effects vary from trip to trip so much that its not possible to tell.

The only difference between the first and preceding trips is that on the first occasion he ate all the mushrooms after drinking the shroom brew, and that itself could well be the reason.

Cody, best friend, has grown golden teachers and wasn't too happy with the results.

He said the first time consuming them, was normal. But the second and third time within a few weeks apart, were very weak trips both visually and mentally.

Cody said he read on a website about mushrooms, Golden Teachers were know for being notoriously inconsistent with their potency.

Has anyone else read this or experienced a varying in potency from flush to flush??

    Thank you!

Its possible that different flushes had different alkaloid levels although the Dr has never really noticed much difference that he would put down to a mushroom (providing it was taken fresh) being weaker.

If the mushrooms had been dried then its also possible what ever method was used to dried or store them resulted in more loss.

The Dr never really expects the same effects from trips any more anyway, even from the same batch with ample time given between trips. He has found that the mushroom experience can vary greatly from one dose to the next. He puts it down more to set and setting and especially the general mood the person happens to be in.

He says that he has sometimes taken his usual dose of about 2 dried grams and a few months later taken the same dose, from the same batch of dried mushrooms and has tripped much harder than previously. He has also had a trip that seemed far less intense similar to Swiy.

I agree...my pink kitten had split an eighth of mushrooms with her friend the purple puppy in the past and although the puppy was actually a bit bigger, she actually had a more intense body high and more visuals. This was at a rave and was a great first time.

The next time they tried it (from the same source) the puppy continued to get pretty good visuals on less actually while the kitten took the same amount as the first time and only got a little visuals again. However,at one point the visuals for the puppy actually started getting to her a bit and the kitten had to calm him down. Puppy's bad trip was a little surprising since we were at someone's house this time instead of a loud and noisy, sometimes obnoxious, rave.

The puppies experience was dramatically different each time he took , he got a bad trip after taking less and had intense visuals. The kitten, on the other hand, ended up taking more than the puppy when he had his bad experience but had less visuals and the high itself was less intense.

The Kitten has tried the mushrooms a few more times, maybe this has something to do with the strength of your mind. Also the kitten doesn't like to watch things that she knows will freak her out while she's on mushrooms...i.e. the bathtub scene from Fear and Loathing. The only time her trip started to turn a little downhill, though she got out of it right when she felt as if the experience was gonna turn nasty just by turning off the TV and enjoying her awesome body high.

So anyway, I guess what I'm saying is maybe your experience is affected by many different factors. The main thing that was different from the puppy's good trip to bad was the location that he was in, in fact he had taken less that time. You can never expect 2 people to experience mushrooms the same way, the genetics is different so they will metabolize it differently. Also, the human mind is so imaginative that even a little change in scenery, and the people you are with, or being in some kind of mood could give you a unique experience. I totally agree with Phungushead in the way he puts it.

The difference in your experience may be due to differences in the quality of the batches...I'm not really sure. But Mushroom trips are always different anyway. If it was only possible to always have a great high....but the human mind is too crazy a thing.

PS, sorry about my writting...sounds good in my head, maybe not so much in actual type.
