This is my first time starting a thread here so forgive me if I seem new - I am.

I started to consider kratom because of my long time chronic pain - 2 bulging disks that seem to be getting worse instead of better - I've been to doctors, gotten the epidural shots and the story just continues with this pain pill and that ... well I've had enough. I decided to take matters into my own hands. Its been a long hard road and enough is enough..

I refuse to take prescription pain killers - They make me feel horrible and I've yet to meet a doctor that gives a shit about your withdrawal. I really hate giving over my power like that.

So my first experience was a few days ago with bali. I gave my dog a few grams (taken with grapefruit juice and potentiated with an acid reducer) and she felt a little bit of a lift - this was probably placebo as she was very nervous about trying this for the first time. She's not a very experienced drug user and a bit of a wuss when it comes to this sort of stuff. The only reason she's even trying this stuff is because she is exhausted from living in pain 24-7.

Over the next 8 hours she tried this and that - Nothing too impressive really to report.

The next day she went after it again. Taking 6 grams this time with all the afore mentioned - again nothing amazing to report. She thought she was going to feel that nice little opiate buzz and some pain relief - not much of anything but really really really mellow and chill. Almost too chill. it had been at least 1 hour 30 minutes since her last kratom dose.

So since she wasn't getting any pain relief she decided to take a few ibuprofen - about 30 minutes later she was so drunk and so sleepy she almost couldn't keep her eyes open. Totally out of pain and totally feeling groovy (still no opiate like buzz but this was nice) she wondered if the ibuprofen had anything to do with it. She looked and looked on the internet but no conclusive evidence.

Next day same thing - 8 grams taken the same way.. same feelings... nothing to write home about.. super mellow relaxation. No opiate like buzz.. still in pain 1.5 hours later takes more ibuprofen waits about 30 mins and BLAM same thing. Super super super tired hits.. so mellow she could melt into her chair.

There's something to this. I'd love to hear other's thoughts.

Then I had a question. So my goal is to get out of pain and I wouldn't mind if my dog got a bit of a buzzy feeling but I'm not looking to give her so much of this stuff she feels like she's eating a salad - I'd love your input and suggestions. And before you blow me up with READ THE FORUMS - I read the forums for 5 days before I made my first purchase and then have been reading ever since. I specifically want to hear from you or your dog about your dog's experiences. I want to try and get this nailed down pretty soon and I don't want to spend tons of money trying this and that.

    Thanks in advance.
    WF

I am using kratom for anxiety and reduce alcohol cravings.

I first had 10mg in a smoothie. It was nice and relaxing, but I didn't feel high or euphoric. Just calm and able to get on with my work.

A week later, I had 15mg mixed into a chocolate milkshake. It was pretty intense, enjoyable but certainly many notches above 'relaxing'.

A week after that, I made a mix of leaf powder just under 10g and made two batches with the powder. I mixed half and half with coffee and a bit of agave nectar and it was tasty, slightly more energising this way.

My alcohol cravings have definitely decreased. I think this is due to the kratom but also my regular counselling sessions. I'm going to stop having it weekly and drop to monthly, maybe twice a month, as I'm concerned about addiction.

I also assume you're read the Kratom Experiences thread :D Erowid's pretty good for that too. I'm very interested in kratom at the mo, please feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat more.

Theres no specific reason why there should be a synergy between Kratom and an NSAID like Ibuprofen, but if it works dont knock it!!

You other question is somewhat unclear. I am a regular user of Kratom and do use it on occasion for pain (headaches). What exactly do you want to know? I can give you an idea on the best way to keep kratom as effective as possible using the minimum dosage etc But im not really sure thats what you're asking?

Bali is certainly a good strain for pain, although if you can get "Super Sunda" its even better and you need half the amount.

If you have specific questions and are wary of asking them incase you get a UTFSE, feel free to pm me.

    Ahh ok got ya lol

Well, of course the "enhanced" strains, most notably "UEI" (Ultra enhanced Indo) are potent. You'd probably only need 0.5g of UEI. HOWEVER, i would really recommend you steer clear of enhanced strains. The tolerance ramp is scary, it will render things like Bali pretty much useless and could very quickly become a very expensive habit. Addiction/Withdrawal is of course also "enhanced".

There are two strains that are non-enhanced that i would suggest you try. Thai Maeng Da is a potent natural strain, requiring only half the dose of something like Bali and is regarded as the most "stimulating/energising" strain about. Conversely "Super Sunda" is equally (if not a little more) potent but is at the opposite end of the alkaloid spectrum making it the most "Sedating/Opiate-like" strain about.

If you find both work well for pain, maybe consider Maeng Da during the day and Super Sunda in the evening.

Through potentiating the substance and working on a good tolerance/dosage control regime it could serve you well. Read up on this, but i have heard Magnesium supplements are meant to reduce tolerance for example.

Sorry for the hasty reply; I can't speak for kratom & pain management as has been helpfully pointed out by the person who left rep (thank you).

I can say what kind which was green malay. I ordered from a site that specialises in only kratom and have a few strains. Apparently the red vein strains are more sedating, I am unsure if this = better pain relief. It could be the opposite!

anyway just to apologise for hasty reply, best of luck.

This is super info thank you! Have no come across the Super Sunda - sounds interesting. Would you be willing to PM me a nice, reputable trust-worthy supplier? I'm trying to not waste a ton of money and really Im in need of getting out of pain sooner than later. Thanks in advance.

Can you tell me anything about the Thai? I was thinking about trying that next as it's said to be energizing!?

I so appreciate any info you can throw my way! :)

wallflower added 6 Minutes and 20 Seconds later...

No problem - thank you for all the info. Im in big need of any help I can get! Im really glad to hear that you're getting help with your issue and that this is working for you. I understand all too well how it is to be a slave to something that has a lot of bad side effects. My reason for going on the kratom are nearly 100% because I don't want to take opiates. While I realize that kratom can be habit forming, it is in MY control how much and when and if I stop or how. I was being thrown into withdrawal by doctors left and right and really? It was making my pain unbarable because I'd be on the opiates for a while and then when I stopped my own endorphines weren't working correctly. I was so tired of putting my life and well being in someone elses hands.

Im happy to report that I've had better results as of late with the bali - its very sedating (which I do like for sleep) at pain killing levels and the thing that I love the most is when I wake up the next day its working better than when I had taken it originally. And? My mood - my mood is off the charts with this amazing mellow good feeling of contentment. Nothing crazy - not euphoria just feel good. Which is great since my pain was causing serious depression. Im still slightly depressed but coming out of it slowly.

The pain effects are amazing with this stuff and its helping a lot of other things too. My anxiety levels pretty much went down to a 2. Im an anxious person by nature and on this stuff I feel like a surfer dude - not a care in the world - Im certainly not used to feeling this mellow so Im adjusting but this? I can do :)

Thanks again for your help. And good luck with everything. I'd love to hear your progress.
    Peace

Okay I just re read your reply Space Nupty and I wanted to be clear about what I was asking - so is Thai the same as Maeng Da or are there different kinds of Thai? When I was shopping and researching I think I saw both. Same thing?

Sweetheart, i would love to give you a reputable supplier but because Kratom is not legal everywhere and this is an international forum i would be breaking one of the primary rules of DF i.e "No source discussion outside of the Gold members sources forum".

All i would say is that the US has a number of excellent suppliers and i would look for specialist ethnobotanical suppliers, rather than these "legal high" site people. Kratom from "Headshops" is overpriced, not fresh and poor quality.

TBH from your experience of the Bali you have it sounds like you've found someone decent!

There are many different types of Thai Kratom. Maeng Da is simply the most potent and most energising non-enhanced strain. I know people who also like Red Vein Thai and find it stimulating and euphoric. This whole Red vein/green vein thing gets confusing and different self appointed kratom expert sites say different things so i can only go by my experience and that of others.

Certainly Red Vein Thai should give you an idea of a kratom similar in potency to Bali but more energising. Give it a try! The above poster also mentioned Green Malay, and i know many people like that strain too and generally find it energising.

Then if you want something more balanced you should look at the Indonesian strains.

Most supplier do small quantities or "sample packs" so why not try a few and see what you like? Feel free to ask me about any specific strain and if i've tried it i can comment :)

SN - No problem about the supplier. I wasn't sure if we just weren't allowed to talk about it in open forum but could message.

I thought I had found a good supplier too but wasn't sure. How the heck would I know ? haha first time with this stuff and have no frame of reference. All I know is that it does what it says it will do :)

I don't know if my supplier has the stuff you're talking about but I will look into it. Someone else I was checking out had a nice sampler pack and I was curious about that - Definitely seems like the best way to figure out what you like/want.

I've heard some talk about mixing strains - Is there any truth to that? So lets say I mix a bali with a Maeng Da- will I get what feels like a cup of good strong coffee with say a lortab? lol Just curious if it works that way or if I'll end up in trouble and or sick!! I know, im not very adventurous. I'd make a really bad drug addict. Im not nearly adventurous enough :p

    :)

Absolutely, some enthusiasts like to combine strains and some suppliers do offer "pre-mixes" which they then give some fancy name and angle them specifically for energy/sedation/balance.

One thing i should mention as you've had different experiences on Kratom is always take it on an empty stomach. It makes a big difference.

    wallflower,

I too have buldging discs in my lower back and was on opioid pain killers until I found Kratom. I hope you experience the same amount of relief from pain as I have since using Kratom.

I personally prefer the more stimulating blends of Kratom. There are three different colored veins of Kratom: red, white and green. From my experiences red vein produces the most sedating, pain reliefing effects which is wonderful for disc pain but I wasen't able to handle the sedation with a two year old at home so I take Red Vein Thai at night and Maenga Da in the morning. Maenga Da is a green vein and as someone mentioned above, is known for its stimulating properties .

A good way of finding a decent vendor or supplier is by ordering a small amount of Kratom from several different vendors and comparing the effects you feel after ingestion. I would go with the same strain as well considering that different strains can have different effects.

I wish I could share my supplier with you but rules are rules. I can however steer you in the right direction.
1.) Find a supplier that sells Kratom and Kratom only.
2.) Never buy from a headshop or from any vendor trying too hard to get your money by packaging it in flashy crap and that is advertising the product by saying it will get you high. Different varieties of Kratom should be described simply by the name of the strain. Example: Classic Bali not Awesome, Super, Strong, Classic, Bali. No, they are trying to hard.
3.) E-mail the vendor and ask questions about the product they are selling. If they are a good vendor they will most likely e-mail you back answering all of your questions and more.

There are more helpful tips for choosing a vendor somewhere on this website which I will look for a direct you towards if possible. In the meantime, I hope this helps.

Click on Kratom from the main page where it has all the different drugs listed it will take you to another page. On that page click on the link to the foum "A Guide to Buying Kratom" posted by ianzombie. It is very helpful and informational. Good luck!
