1. Dear Drugs-Forum readers: We are a small non-profit that runs one of the most read drug information & addiction help websites in the world. We serve over 4 million readers per month, and have costs like all popular websites: servers, hosting, licenses and software. To protect our independence we do not run ads. We take no government funds. We run on donations which average $25. If everyone reading this would donate $5 then this fund raiser would be done in an hour. If Drugs-Forum is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online another year by donating whatever you can today. Donations are currently not sufficient to pay our bills and keep the site up. Your help is most welcome. Thank you.

I have been taking large quantities of MS Contin (between 350mg -650mg per day) and has built up a tolerance. If I was to take codeine how much would You recommend I takes? I have not used codeine before.

I believe that with the phenomenal tolerance you have obviously built up, there is no safe level of codeine that you could take to give you any significant pain relief or subjective effects. The ceiling dose for codeine is around 400 to 500mg. After this, the liver cannot convert any more to morphine (which is obviously active, whereas codeine isn't) regardless of tolerance. Taking more is useless and dangerous.

400mg of codeine is roughly equivalent to 40mg of morphine depending on your metabolism, so I don't think you'll get much use out of codeine at all, sorry to say!
