Ginger is related to and quite similar to Galangal which is definetly active. Both are mild stimulants, Galangal is also a mild psychedelic, its possible Ginger may be also. Perhaps you could compare the chemical makeup of the two, but I would imagine Galangal would be superior / require less to be consumed.
I use ginger to help prevent nausea when taking other entheogens such as Hawaiian Baby Woodrose.

Would you really want to take fresh...or would dry perhaps be better? I know as a baker that dry is a more potent spice, but that's for flavor. Ginger does help nausea though...and makes yummy cookies!

Fresh ginger is used in a vast array of Oriental dishes - usually between 1 teaspoon (5ml) shredded up to 2 tablespoon (30ml) shredded per dish. One dish serving 2 - 4 people. Never noted anyone reporting a buzz from my dinners. But they do become addicted to my spicy ginger shrimp.

Dried ginger loses much of it's aromatic qualities. Tell Mom you've taken up Chinese cooking?
