Effects - how long is it safe to go without sleep?

    swim is on a bit of a bender at the moment.its 4am now and swims still on the cola & amphetamine (have been for a few days)
    swim was wondering how long is it safe to go without sleep?
    and how long other swimmers have gone without sleep on stims and what were the effects
    also tomorrow swim has to go to work what should swim do to offset the tiredness just keep sniffing through work and deal with the comedown and get some sleep afterwards?

    most adverse symptoms, develop around the 72 hour mark....
    Three nights without sleep tends to really affect consciousness, and can easily evolve into psychotic like states

    Beware SWIM suffered very serious hallucinations after about 4 days which had started with an ecstasy binge and then kept awake by speed and some downers. SWIM was even seeing ghosts and people walking through walls. It was heavy shit, dreams for SWIM were becoming reality and they were nightmares for real (and you dont wake up, it just gets worse the longer you stay awake).
    It all got terribly out of control (much worse if yer on your own because no reality checks).
    Eventually after about a week it ended tragically with a terrible accident (long fall) where SWIM thought he was being pursued by undercover police on the roof of neighbours houses with sniper rifles (SWIM was literally dodging the bullets it seemed that real!)
    SWIM still pays the price for that one 20 years later with many agonizing pains(lucky to be alive and not crippled)
    SWIMs advice would be take some downers (only) and go to sleep as soon as possible before SWIY goes mad! :(
    if SWIY cant get anything to sleep go the herb shop and get some Valerian tincture that should take the edge off a bit.

    it varys by person but 3 days is the most any one should go. and not to offen eather. swim once did not sleep for 6 days and beame very confused about everything. was not shure where they where triping more than with any drug ever. it is realy unhealth for the body to do this. as it wil keep producing chemicals like melatonin to make swiy sleep and other hormones. your brain needs time to chill and recharge. to help repair daily damage your body suffers.

    SWIM's SWIY mate managed 11 days once on just speed(but with constant fags,lucozade+coffee).He ended just up just walking up and down the same road for hours! He was actually a lucozade salesman so the whole cellar was full of written off pallets.They actually lasted 5 years more(after he was sacked) but the cans started exploding with corrosion after only 4 yrs (lesson learnt only write off bottles,harder to dint though) :)

    I wonder what record is..(and no fish stories plz if anyone answer)

    Aside from that Vietnamese dude who didn't sleep for like 33 years, there was a bipolar guy on this forum who reckoned he stayed up for 30 days on meth.

    After three (even two) days without sleep swiy should not be driving. This is usually when hallucinations start. Reaction time will be substantially slowed, reasoning skills, basic math skills, awareness, emotionality, immune system and memory all start to really suffer. Blood pressure goes up and headaches, hand tremors and mild to moderate psychosis may begin to take place.

    Don't drag this out longer than it needs to be, past the three day mark it's just too much. Your body repairs and regenerates cells while you sleep, so every extra day is just weakening your body and immune system!

    Swim got some sleep paralysis x2 when he tried to take a short nap after ~48 hours awake (he's never had it before in his life). Mind you, sleep paralysis can be quite alarming and scary (especially depending on what you see), and was kinda freaky. Swim is definitely one of those people who needs his sleep, and he says if you are one of those people, 48hrs is where shit starts to get weird.

    ah sleep depervation. whenever swim decides to CRANK it up a notch, swim remembers these words that i hope its under stood crystal clear:p

    Sleep deprivation can have serious effects on your health in the form of physical and mental impairments. Inadequate rest impairs our ability to think, handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system and moderate our emotions. In fact, sleep is so important to our overall health that total sleep deprivation has been proven to be fatal: lab rats denied the chance to rest die within two to three weeks.

    Without adequate rest, the brain's ability to function quickly deteriorates. The brain works harder to counteract sleep deprivation effects, but operates less effectively: concentration levels drop, and memory becomes impaired.

    Similarly, the brain's ability to problem solve is greatly impaired. Decision-making abilities are compromised, and the brain falls into rigid thought patterns that make it difficult to generate new problem-solving ideas. Insufficient rest can also cause people to have hallucinations. Other typical effects of sleep deprivation include:
    • depression
    • heart disease
    • hypertension
    • irritability
    • slower reaction times
    • slurred speech
    • tremors.
    if swiy's amines are too damn gooood...then swim sure does hope that this warning is read crystal clear

    Ok, on day 3 without sleep from Methodone withdrawal, any words of wisdom??? I feel like shit, I do nor want to keep drinking, but what else do I have??

    Its shit getting no sleep , i went 5 days where when id jump into bed id get heavy butterfly's and nervous feelings ,its the most depressing thing ever sitting up alone all night ,i would go for walks at all times of night come home go on the exercise bike nothing would work ,then when i went onto mitazipine they would knock me right out ..Hope you get some sleep soon

    I stay awake routinely for several weeks at a time... However I have met some Iv meth users who have literally been awake for months. Some binges last 4-6 months. Not recommended at all. They have literally lost thier minds.

    In my teens I went without sleep for 2 days every 3 months for a period of roughly two years. Twice.it went to three days and at this point things changed quickly. One time a vecile in my eye burst and is still visible 10 years later. Once I had a seizure. So I'd say 2.5 days is the limit for me atleast

    The longest I've been up was five days, because I wanted to push myself, but by the fifth night no amount of ice could bring me back to a worthwhile state of mind or body and I knew I was only prolonging a barren twilight existence. I decided to let sleeping dogs lie and get some rest... 6 hours later I am staring at the ceiling, mind numb and body frozen. It was almost peaceful, but I know my body must have felt like it was dying.

    I don't believe I was ever in danger during those five days, but I have since made the effort to research sleep as thoroughly as I have the drugs that disturb it (A Wikipedia PhD, don't you know?), and I quickly realized just how unhealthy a lack of sleep is.

    I may have only been up for five days once, but I used to sleep every other night for weeks on end, and right before my eyes I have experienced decreased reaction time (which could be a safety hazard), lack of memory recall and short-term memory consolidation, extremely decreased wound healing and an absence of motivation and enjoyment, no matter what I happened to be doing.

    Lack of sleep is an ancient animal companion; it tells the animal: something is not right, this is not a good place to stay, you are not safe. The stress response induces hair loss, brings about acne, increases the heart rate and prevents the brain from oxidizing free radicals that accumulate in the brain during the day.

    No sleep is stress. Stress is a killer, quite literally the number one human killer and you can trace all of our favorite diseases right to it.

    Today I make sure I get at least a few hours of sleep every night. I have not changed my drug of choice, I've changed my priorities. Sleep is a basic, vital function. It is not fun to stay up unnaturally. It is not cool to prove how long you can go without sleep. Your body is the most beautiful creation in your Universe. It doesn't, you do not, deserve what a lack of sleep does.

    In college we always joined of sleep deprivation was a way to get high without drugs as it makes everything strange - to the point where many fellow students felt they were on LSD - but it was only caffeine (coffee) and staying awake a few nights! Not pleasant. Body stress at day 3 is horabble. People get irritable, totally unrational, and wander doing nothing.
    I found those that went 3 to 5 days awake - crashed so hard they slept the same amount of days to recover. In such, they did not get more time to do things. As recuperation time appeared to exceed the time prior awake.
    Everyone that tried such that term said it was worse than any drug.
    We were just seeing what sleep deprivation did to us.
    Most of us had arguments and it was a total disaster.
    Our conclusion was rest is more important than any of us realized. When I can't sleep due to pain, it sometimes keeps me up at night so I not get sleep for a few days; BUT if I rest, lay there calm pretending I am resting, then every 2 hours was equal to an hour sleep. I learned to manage my life with resting if I cannot sleep. Otherwise I know I will act crazy like my fellow classmates did.
    It is best to learn to rest the body so you not have serious problems to deal with.
    You are utilizing your body for everything you do, rest it as well.
