I am about to IV for my first time but I am slightly confused about how much water to add when preparing to IV dilaudid. To refresh my memory I did a quick google search and found this information:

It says to use 30ml per tablet..... either I am calculating something wrong or that is a lot of water. I have 3cc syringes (which is more then insulin syringes which most people use). Am I missing something if 1cc = 1ml ?
How to prepare dilaudid for injection?

    *For informational purposes only.
    Dilaudid Tablets (1mg, 2mg, 4mg, & 8mg)
    Hydromorphone HCL (1mg, 2mg, 4mg, & 8mg)
One U-100 28 or 29 guage insulin syringe available at any pharmacy.
30 Units of water per tablet
    1 Cotton Filter or Wheelfilter
    1 large spoon
Step one: Crush the desired amount of tablets and place into spoon.
Step two: Add 30ml of water per tablet to spoon.
Mix well with back of syringe.
Heat with lighter until clear liquid comes to top
    Place cotton filter in spoon.
Draw up solution through filter until all liquid is pulled out of spoon.
    Tigh off and shoot.

I would suggest avoiding using cotton filters when using pills, stick with the wheel filter. Also, I never ever heated any pills that I would be injecting, this will just make binders/fillers break down and get into your rig. It is also important to mention, if one does heat the solution... you must allow it too cool down before injecting. I know it seems like common sense, but it does happen.

I always used 31 guage 100 unit rigs made by BD, they were my favorite as they are so small. the amount of water needed really depends on the amount of pill being used. If one is using a single 2mg pill, I would use 30-50 units of water, adding 10-20 more units for each additional pill.

No need to heat pill. Any hydromorphone pill will extract perfectly with cold water. However boiling (half ass sterelizing) the water is recommended. Heat just makes bad things more soluable, especially in time release meds.

Also SWIM is sure the person meant 30 units per pill not 30ml's. And yes, 30 UNIT's per pill is a good ratio with dilaudid tablets. SWIM would go 40 units himself though. Allow a little extra as someof the water will not be drawable in the syringe. For instance if one uses 100 units on three pills, most likely only 75-80 units will be recovered.
