Swim used the f*cking search engine and found out a bunch of stuff. Homatropine is an anti-cholinergic which serves the dual purpose of drying up mucous secretions like an antihistamine while supplying nasty side effects for anyone thinking they are going to get away with knocking back a mega dose of syrup. Each teaspoon contains 5 mg of Hydro and 1.5 mg of Homatropine. This small dose of Homatropine is considered a 'sub-therapeutic' dose, but if one takes several doses at once or too closely together the Federales will get their revenge on the syrup abusing public by sicking the nasty side effects of old homey atropine on yo ass.

I have heard of this, this is exactly the same idea as Lomotil/Motofen for the shits which contain the CII narcotics diphenoxylate and difenoxin respectively but are adulterated with atropine to prevent abuse so are only CV/CIV instead.

I figure that if Swims usual dose for the warm & fuzzies is only around ten mg of Hydro anyway, 3 mg of homatropine is a non-issue. Maybe even up to 5 or 6 mg of homatropine is not a problem. I think they are trying to deter the guy who is knocking back half the bottle in one shot.

Something SWIM had contained that and it seemed 3 or 4 miligrams didn't harm him at all.

and swim thanks you for your contribution to the thread. Wondering if someone knows where the real bullshit thresh hold is for the homatropine. Swim guessing maybe around ten mg or so?

More like 20mg, homatropine is a lot weaker than atropine which explains why Hycodan has a much higher abuse potential than Lomotil despite the fact that diphenoxylate is a stronger opioid and by itself more addictive than hydrocodone. SWIM can testify than overindulging on Lomotil induces much more unpleasant atropine side effects than doing same with Hycodan, not to mention constipation from Hell

Hover added 17 Minutes and 23 Seconds later...

Hycodan contains hydrocodone, not oxycodone. Similar drugs but oxy is stronger. Taken orally hydrocodone is equipotent to morphine while oxy is 1.5x morphine. Before anyone gets excited SWIM mentions that morphine is not very effective when taken orally and cannot even begin to compare with IV or IM morphine, thus most synthetic and semi-synthetic opiods easily "beat" morphine via the oral route so comparisons in strength are not very relevant. Injection morphine is quite a different story though, too bad it's so soporific.

And swim thanks Hover for keeping this thread alive. Swim is never going anywhere near 20 mg of homatropine.

Swim was talking about 20mg of hydrocodone which in Hycodan syrup would only add up to 6mg homatropine.

OK great thanks for the clarification; then twenty mg of Hycodan is the point that you do not want to exceed. Swim saw Bob Dylan drink just about that amount and admittedly the discomfort did start to rear its ugly head to the point where it just about ruined the song.

A certain Panda took doses of Hycodan containing up to 25-35mg of hydrocodone, after starting with lower doses of the syrup to test the waters. He didn't really notice any uncomfortable side effects (nothing at all at 20mg even), but maybe he is more resistant to the effects of homatropine so don't take this as justification to dive in with a dose that high. If one wants to use the syrup recreationally, its best to start low and work up, taking note of the incidence and severity of side effects encountered.

Indeed resistance to the effects of atropine and atropine congeners varies with individuals.

I understand this thread is a little old yet it really helped swim out a ton. Does anyone have any other thoughts on Hydromet/Hycodan and the Homatropine that's added?

Swim read a very detailed case study in which indeed 6mg of Homatropine (=20mg hydro) produced no notable side effects. Now this is simply the max dose they tested to, doesn't necesarily mean its approaching an unsafe level... Obviously swim will start out at a much smaller dose and see as everyone's different, yet its really disappointing that the Homatropine could seemingly mess up a good time...(as its purposefully put in to prevent abuse)

    Case Study - http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/local_links.php?linkid=4951&catid=139

(also to ask... without a million dollar lab set... can the homatropine be filtered/removed in any way??)

Swim will tell you from experience it's not worth it. The amount of syrup that has to be ingested leads to unwanted side effects via the dreaded homatropine. Nausea, headache, and an overall feeling like shyt is to be expected. Before swim researched the chemical, he drank 4oz one time, and payed the price. Swim finds that up to 2oz or (60mL) is tolerable. Anything over that and the side effects make swim uncomfortable.

    Well if 1oz = 6teaspoons = [30mg hydro/6mg homa]

    then 4oz = [120mg hydro/24mg homa] thats quite of a lot...

Swim took 1oz over the course of an hour or so and felt pretty chill for a while, not much of a tolerance... yet like 5hrs later felt absolutely horrible, as described above. Still feel bad even 10hrs later....
