SWIM currently has a script for 10mg hydrocodone vicodin that he uses on occasion for an old sports injury. He also remembers taking percocet from a friend once in the past for the pain, years ago, but forget how it felt.

His question is whether equal doses of the two drugs would give you a different profile of euphoric side effects? It would probably be possible to switch from the 10mg vicodin to percocet, but his wonder is how much difference there is in feel between the two opioids? Does one really relieve pain better? Does one effect your mood more?

Keeping in mind that people experience things differently, in general, oxycodone is approximately 1.5 times as 'potent' as hydrocodone, and oxycodone is a more 'energetic', 'stimulating', or 'chatty'/ 'social' high, whereas hydrocodone is a more 'mellow', 'sedating', 'couchlock' type of high. On the pain management scale or ladder of treatments, Doctors will issue oxycodone (DEA schedule II) for severe pain, and hydrocodone (DEA schedule III) for less severe or moderate pain. Oxycodone is considered almost universally as a more potent pain medicine, as well as having a higher potential for incidences of addiction and or abuse.

To the OP, Oxycodone is shorter in duration and more intense while hydrocodone is longer lasting, intense (only slightly less so than oxy depending on dose), and has an energy to it. SWIM finds both make him very social and energetic (not like speed, just motivated), unless he's taken a huge dose which can cause demobilizing nausea (Only encountered with high levels of oxy 80mg or higher) & the pleasant subtleties of the nod.

Swim also thinks hydrocodone has less tendancy to create nausea.

When SWIM has taken hydrocodone, it feels like energy (heavyness?) radiates from the chest area and head where as oxycodone encompasses the "whole" body. SWIM would say oxycodone is like "natural sugar" where hydrocodone is like "Sweet n Low" and SWIY knows there is something better.

SWIM feels Oxycodone has always worked way better for when SWIM needed it for broken bones. Hydrocodone feels even more synthetic than oxycodone to SWIM.

SWIM can't figure out why Dr. tells SWIM to take 10 mg of Hydrocodone every 6 hrs for pain when SWIM could take 1 - oxycodone which would provide relief for 8 hrs or so. This is during rehab period of the injury BTW. Alot of extra APAP is not the best for the body.

Without knowing SWIY exact injury or amount of pain, SWIY would "probably" be better sticking with the hydrocodone instead of going to the oxycodone. The problem with all of pain relief medicine is that SWIY needs to take every 6-8 hrs or SWIY is back to having pain again.

SWIM is in a similar situation as SWIY and has constant annoying pain, hydrocodone works for good for temporary pain relief....but if it's reoccuring pain then SWIM thinks it sucks when the script is out and back to being in pain.

swim's gonna have to say he's experienced the total opposite. He's found that oxy is just slightly more potent than hydro, and only noticeable by experienced users really.
As far as the high, hydro is something swim can do in public without uncontrollably dipping out, while on oxy, it's the opposite. Note that this is during peak effects.
Duration is just about the same, hydro maybe 15 min or so longer. As far as the come-down, they both suck. Both will get you sick with lack of experience or unless you're not taking that much. It's all part of the "experience".

For the most part, oxy is what swim prefers between the two, just because he's not looking for that energy hydro gives. Now if he's going to be a busy bee during the high, yea, hydro is the way to go. Plus hydro makes swim excellent at hackysack haha!

Swim used to be prescribed the 10mg yellow Norcos(aka Bananaz on swimz block)along with 30mg Roxicodone(oxycodone). While Swim would take these in conjunction with other meds... the highs were quite different. The Hydrocodone was more of a speedy type high giving Swim a rush of sorts. The pain relief was moderate. The Oxyz gave Swim a rush of sorts as well but on a different level. This rush unlike the Norcos was always followed by a Nod.Norcos never made swim nod.All in all Swim would say that together the two drugs taken at the same time are the best way to feel their greatest effects and also for their Analgesic properties.Swim should use CAution with these drugs ....they can become a ball and chain if not used correctly.
