I went for an interview today with the new local GP surgery (last one on town I've tried) and they said they couldn't accept me if I'm taking valium. They said they could wean me off over a month,, two at he most which would mean I dunno...who can count here? 10mg a week? ****ing hell. Imagine how ill I'd be. They said they don't prescribe valium at all but they'd try to get me off it in 1-2 months and that's the only way they'll accept me. I don't know what else to do now. I'm still taking the street ones and tapering myself 2mg a week which is hard. WTF am I gonna do? Not only that I ordered a bulk load of more but my dealer is going away at the end of the month for 3 months and I don't know where else to get them.

Very difficult situation here. Sorry it's taken a while to reply.... been very overloaded with a bunch of things in my life....
Anyway, firstly; try to remain rational. I know this hard...well extremely hard. But it's harder to allow yourself to get overwhelmed. I need to know the current dose that you are taking, or at least the minimum dose that you can manage without getting withdrawals. Once I know that I can draw up a rough guideline for tapering if that's what you need to do. I know you probably don't want to do it, but if you need to then that's where it's at.

Secondly; you can't drop 10mg a week. That is simply not possible. It is reasonable to drop at 1mg a week (possibly), and sometimes 1mg every 2-3 weeks. If your current doctor can't see that this protocol for benzo taper then they don't know what they're doing and you should change doctors.

Thirdly; don't allow yourself to be pushed around like that. They'll try it on, but you can't allow them to get to you and push you into a dangerous and impossible taper like that. I know you said this the only doctors surgery in town, but you may need to go to another town?

But give the information about your current dosage and how much you have available to start with and we'll go from there.
    It'll be ok :)

    Hi

I'm sooooooooo sorry it's taken me so long to respond I've been very unwell with withdraw symptoms then last week had a bomb dropped on me again by a friend.

I'm currently taking 65mg and have been on that amount since yesterday. I'm tapering by 2mg a fortnight. It's really hard. The w/drawal effects are very severe. My dealer as I say has gone away I don't know when he'll be back (maybe 2-3 months) and I don't know where to get more from if I run out before he;s back. I WANT TO GET OFF THESE. I'd stop them altogether tomorrow if I could but I can't. So far I have the following left:

    1 10mg strip of 14, 1 5 mg strip of 14; 1 10mg strip with 2.5 tabs missing as of today; 1 5mg strip containing 5.5 tablets and 5 full 10mg boxes of 28.

And yes a thinking of asking if I an been accepted by a GP practice in another town. There's still no guarantee hey'll wean me off properly though & I'm not building my hopes up.

Thanks for your help. Is there anything else you need to know?

    Thanks again
    ATT

When you say the GP won't accept you if you're taking Valium what do you mean ? Won't accept you as a patient as in allow you to register with the surgery? Or won't give you a script for diazepam?

I can tell you now that it's very very hard to get a diazepam script in the uk. The doctors are now on some kind of orders to not script out benzodiazepines to anyone pretty much, I went through this whole thing earlier in the year and it's just very unlikely to happen. I was taking around 50mg a day and wanted to taper off and this was via a london drug clinic that was extremely helpful in terms of scripting methadone and subutex and ssri's and not a small practise in a small town where it would take weeks to get a script for something like that.

I didn't really a need a script as I had a dealer but I managed to taper down from 50mg a day to 20mg a day in 8 weeks so it can be done, my problem was that I could only get 10mg pills and to taper down from 20mg a day I really needed 2mg tablets as it was hard to break them up any smaller. I even offered to do the whole 'supervised dose' where you take the tablet in front of the chemist but they were having none of it.

You could try and go to hospital and say you're concerned that you're going to have a seizure as you have no diazepam left and are on a high dose and have no means to get any, then they will have to take it relatively seriously but they might just say there's nothing they can do.

My advice would be start cutting your dose now, you maybe uncomfortable on a lower dose but tapering benzos isn't going to be comfortable and you're just not going to get a script from the NHS that allows you to taper by 1/2 mg a month or even a fortnight because they can't write those long term scripts for diazepam they are just not allowed to. If you have the money you can always try the digital shopping option there are plenty of forums (not this one) that specialise in info sharing for that kind of thing if you're genuinely unable to do it any other way.

    Best of luck anyway.

You haven't read my post properly or looked at my other posts on the same subject as we have spoken before about his. Start tapering NOw? I'VE BEEN TAPERING SINCE JUNE! I've gone from 80mg to 65mg with a lot going on in between. I'm sorry I'm really at my wits end right now and if I had hair I'd be tearing it out but PLEEEEEEEEEEASE look over my old posts if you have a chance and thanks for your input, I'm grateful for the thought. Oh boy the stress!

I meant start tapering more heavily with what you have left, I don't think 2mg a week is a particularly progressive taper personally but if you say you got horrific withdrawal symptoms from a 2mg reduction per week who am I to argue. I don't really know what anyone can do for you in reality you either need to find a new source and continue your current taper over a longer period or drop it faster and deal with the consequential withdrawal symptoms, otherwise you can try going to hospital and tell them you're concerned about seizures as I suggested and hope they might take action. Benzo withdrawal is unpleasant it's not going to be walk in the park but ultimately you could drop 5/10mg every two weeks and the consequences wouldn't be fatal so other than offer you sympathy there's little that anyone can do for you. It's a shame the NHS are so stringent on benzos but that's just how it is, I managed to drop 30mg in 8 weeks and it was pretty nasty but it's do-able so the only comfort I can offer is that it's not going to be deadly.
