Having been an addict for almost a year, swim has never filtered any of his shots... ever. This question came about after reading many horror stories of what happened to users who did not filter properly and got swim thinking.

As someone who has never filtered, but did not have any problems instantly, could a problem arise later on down the road? Swim will be honest, many times he would look at the syringe and see little shit floating about, yet would still shoot it. His filter method was done by eye, and yes he knows its a terrible thing to do.

SWIM's not really sure about this one, as it depends on the kind of H SWIY uses, and its purity, how long SWIY cooks for, etc. SWIM typically filters, but a couple weeks ago, she was able to procure some H4 powder and cooked it up, but upon filtering, it seemed as though she was losing a great deal of H in the cotton, so she skipped filtering for her next hit, even though she could see tiny particles in the barrel. SWIM shot up anyway, was fine, and her veins seem to have recovered with no lasting damage. Hopefully SWIY's veins will remain in good condition, and this seems likely, as most clots/ vein problems seem to arise fairly quickly, but SWIM's no expert on this, only having done it once.

    Good luck SWINeznam :vibes:

How come swiy simply does not just filter? It's not exactly time consuming or heroin wasting to just put down a little piece of cotton in the spoon and it could even save a persons life or limb. Swim thinks swiy should definately start filtering immediately starting with swiys next shot.

Swiy is probably not in any immediate danger from not filtering in the past. But think about it, a majority of all accidents associated with heroin injecting has to do with poor filtering so if you keep on not-doing it for years and years sooner or later something is going to happen to you and you'll severely regret not just taking that extra second to put a little cotton in your spoon..

And if someone is worried about losing like a few tiny milligrams in the cotton, would you rather risk losing your arm? besides, when you have cooked the heroin and it is still warm - soak the cotton in cold water before you lay it down in the cooker and suck it up..the coldwater-cotton will let exactly every little drop of heroin pass through without losing anything except for the unwanted unsoluble microparticles that can be dangerous.

What do the swiny think where all this nasty stuff is going?

Some particles goes around the Blood-Circulation for a long time,
every few seconds they pass the Heart-Valves and slowly damage them,
another particle can go into the Brain and close up important Parts,
a Stroke is possible, or a Embolism!

fortunately much of the rubbish that is used to cut heroin is comparatively more dissolvable than the heroin itself (not counting talc or the like, of course). BUT, as the others rightly point out, filtering is certainly a good habit to get into. Cottons can help to strain some of the larger particles out - including bacteria that contributes to heart valve damage and other nasty things.
    Be safe

How does one even draw up the whole shot w/o using cotton. You'd still have liquid left in the spoon and you'd be scrapping the needle around the spoon trying to suck it all up. Swim always filtered. Either a cigarette filter or a piece of cotton. Once actually, he had neither on him so he cut off a tiny piece from his t-shirt and dropped it in the spoon to filter. It's not that he was overly worried about nasties going into his veins, he just didn't think you could get all the dope w/o a filter in their.

Like, ya know when you wipe the cotton around the spoon with it stuck on the needle to get all the liquid? You'd be wasting dope without it.

Girlie's with MP on this one.

Yes, for the health reasons as well, but for the greed reasons, too.

And just so she couldn't reuse her cottons, she said when her shot was pulled up, she'd throw a few more drops of water on the cotton and suck up again, then hold the cotton in her fingers and squeeze it while pulling up on the syringe to make sure she got every. damn. little. bit. of gear she possibly could.

She did clean her fingers well with alcohol swabs first, though. She says she always had bunches of them around from the needle exchange.

miss elise is spot on in swims experience, If losing the lady H is your worry the all you need to do is squeeze the filter between CLEAN/STERILE fingers and suck out what remains.

Also ive heard of blood clots staying lodged in a bend in a vein untill a block is formed and the vein or limb is lost.

Well at the time of his heroin use, swim didnt really care whether he lived or died. (currently he is off heroin) He wasnt thinking about which method would provide the most heroin with and not waste it.
Now, he is just curious of the possible health problems that may happen later on. He's definitely going to start filtering later when he uses again. His health was the least of his priorities.

So in time, swim could have some problems? Cause he did IV for a while, and had a pretty big habit.

First of all, well done for coming off - catty notices that SWIYNeznam says he will filter when he uses again in future.. perhaps that 'when' will change to 'if' and then to 'won't' ? Either way, hang in there :vibes:

The thing with injecting into any blood vessel, those little particles will move downstream until it becomes too small to pass, and the danger then is that the particle will lodge, forming an embolism. Blockage of a vessel causes a reduction in blood supply to the tissue downstream and can eventually result in tissue death.
Particles into a peripheral vein (arms, hands, feet etc) can travel to the lungs and lead to pulmonary granulomas, pulmonary oedema, emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis and hypertension. Smaller particles can pass through capillaries and remain in the circulation until getting stuck in the liver and spleen. Obviously these are worst-case scenarios and catty doesn't wish to scare anyone - but we all know the very real dangers of injecting.
Unfortunately nobody can tell SWIY exactly what the chances are of these things happening, and some of these health things do take time to develop, so it's good to be aware of the risks and keep as safe and healthy as possible now and in the future :)

I don't think the filter really stops any particles in my case anyway... After its been heated, it doesn't really have any particles left in it. The filter is just the for spike to rest on ime.

Swim filters if there is any particles. Swim has injected particles more than once but they must of dissolved in swims veins with time. Swim kicks himself in the ass and sometimes wonders if he would have more energy and if things would be different if he hadn't injected particles. Never inject particles and always use micron filters when possible, stock up on them. You don't want to be kicking yourself in the arse later in life.

Of course it would have filtered particles, maybe not particles large enough to be seen by the human eye but they will be there.

In my estimation, bad technique is usually picked up by some other muppet that shows someone how to prepare an injection and not knowing any better they continue to use the same bad technique until they either see someone who actually knows what they're doing or has a serious problem. Seems to me it's all part of the shady world of illicit heroin use.

My fiend went through a period of being excessively paranoid about filters and what might be in the gear he was injecting, so much so that he would inject and then get totally paranoid that he was going to get a 'dirty hit' (the most common immediate effect of a dodgy filter or poor filtering) or something was going to clot his blood. He would monitor his pulse and check his colour, it was totally nuts which was made worse by the fact that what he was using hardly did anything anyway.

Swiy is crazy enough to start a relationship with Lady 'H', a kiss or two without cotton is prolly overlooked.
