This is a really great read about Jason Mewes' struggle with heroin and oxycontin addiction. It's a nine part series written by Kevin Smith in his online diary. If you've got an hour or so, check it out. I was completely engrossed by it after reading the first chapter and had to finish the entire thing. Since it's so long, I'm not going to copy+paste it. Check it out at: http://silentbobspeaks.com/?m=20060418

I was just reading it yesterday... Kevin Smith is a good writer as well as film director -
    - I got really sad reading the part where Jason would actually get so upset he'd smash his head into the wall and bleed from it.

But yes... really really good story about addiction and recovery, thanks for posting it here!

On another note, has anyone seen Clerks2? Good movie :-D

I agree with ya for sure. Love his movies and love how people can take a bad situation and turn it into something outstanding. The best stories almost always start from some life event.

I just sat through and read the entire story in one go, very addictive to read (no pun intended, oh gawd). Here are all the nine links to the story parts, for convenience since there's no link at the end of each story that I could see:

Also, if you like Kevin Smith make sure to check out his podcast, it's called Smodcast and can be found here http://www.quickstopentertainment.com/smodcast/ He seems to get completely stoned every now and then, it's amusing to notice the quiet sound of a bong being hit discreetly. Usually followed by some baked digression about Aquaman getting high, etc...

It's an entertaining read no doubt, but unfortunately the author makes some, well, blatantly untrue claims. I appreciate that he knows alot about the effects of addiction on those surrounding the addict.......but that is pretty much all he knows, and it shows.

He repeatedly talks of Delirium Tremens as being a part of heroin withdrawal, when actually DT's are associated with alcohol withdrawal, and are deadly. He also claims Oxycontin does not create a tolerance in the user. It's a very personal, opinionated read, unfortunately, even when it comes down to what are presented as facts.

So while it is an entertaining read, remember that the author is talking from his personal perspective, and, remarkably, considering how close he was with Mewes, knows few facts about heroin addiction.

    I don't why I am bumping this

have you seen Jay Mewes in 2015? He s back from 4th rehab.

He is skinnier than ever, and looks very much a typical rock bottom addict would. He s even got the voice of a homeless addict. He really looks bad. Apparently if caught with drugs again he will go to jail. Hes been smoking crack and heroin on and off. He is got a daughter too

Man I just read this story and was all stoked for the guy and didn't see the date, shit that was 6 years ago. That's 200 years in addict years, that sucks he is all twisted up again. I wish I seen the last post first or I wouldn't even have read it.

gadget added 120 Minutes and 10 Seconds later...

Kevins own words "but if I’d learned anything over the last three years it was that I didn’t know shit about drug dependency" I think your being a little to literal. Jason tried to hide or do his drugs not in Kevin's face so I think in retrospect Kevin did a great job of telling the story, so he got a couple withdrawal facts wrong. He is not a junkie or a licensed social worker. He is however one of the best friends you could ever have putting up with that constant b.s. while he was getting married and having his first baby. Just my 2 cents

Anyone caught that story Jay told about how he was on a 3 days crack binge and was constantly getting paranoid?

How he needed to hide empty bags from Kevin and was afraid of putting in the trash or flushing them because there were simply too many. He broke a hole in the dry wall, and started throwing empties in there. Then he thought cops were coming...

and he threw his whole stash behind the wall! Imaginary cops never came so he had to tear a huge piece of the wall all the way to the floor to get his crack rocks back. Next he was "carpet" scouting for more crack rocks behind the wall, and he smoked some smaller pieces of dry wall. Twice.

Of course when he got to more crack, he needed a place to throw baggies away, so he broke a second hole in the opposite wall and started throwing away in there.

He tried hiding the large hole by blocking it with a chair, and the smaller hole by taping a poster over it....

Alien Sex Fiend added 35 Minutes and 37 Seconds later...

And that time Jay got Kevin's house on fire while nodding off with a candle. Kevin's kids were slepping there!

And I think there was an instance of Jay stealing Kevin's family gifts. Forgot if it was Christmas gifts. I am the biggest fan of the duo, but Addiction is ugly in every person, famous or otherwise.
