I have only had luck with kava root. I hear alot of paste is just shit. Also, kava can only take you so far. Swim basically only got mild relaxation out of it. The best feeling he ever got out of it was the feeling that he gets from drinking 1 or 2 beers.

Swim can get strong effects from kava even as strong as he would from
Alcohol. The only way he could get it to work though is to take 30
    capsules of kava 30% extract.

Be aware of the risks though... Almost all reports of liver problems and kava have been from the pills.

Put swim down as feeling nothing from Kava, 20 pills gave him nothing.

    Might be an enzyme issue.

Heres the thing about kava, the active alkaloids are best extracted with oils. When I used kava, he would either blend it with milk and strain, or he would make the tea with some olive oil, ect. Both methods increased the effects significantly.

Heres another interesting thing... Many serious kava drinkers, like those in Hawaii, say that the alkoloids in kava are destroyed by heat, so they have a special method of making the tea. They do this by putting the kava powder in a silk pouch, and actually pressing the pouch in some water with a little oil for 15-25 minutes. You could do this by putting the powder in a nylon stocking, and pressing it forcefully in a bowl of water with your fingers. This extracts the alkaloids without destroying them and I has found it to be effective.

I believe this method is the most effective if you really press the hell out of the stuff. Many kava bars in Hawaii use this method, and that is probably the kava capital of the world. I do think that a blender will do the trick if you don't want to bust you ass. Kava does work, but the effects are subtle.

I have had kava that really suprised him though. The kava was refered to as "black kava", and it was a bit pricy, but it came in whole root form. The first effect was the room seemed to get brighter. Next, weird things apeared in the corner of swim's vision, some what like pot can do. This made it annoying to watch TV, so he listened to some music. I got a bit chatty and more relaxed, but the relaxation was not to strong. I wouldn't call it euphoria, more like a subtle mood lift. All the things that were bugging I went away, and it put my problems in perspective. It was like a cross between alcohol and opium, only much more mild. I would say it was closer to the effects of alcohol without any of the negative effects. Best kava swim ever had, but by the next batch, he didn't get that effect at all.

kava is in the hallucinagen family, although i would not want to try to stomach enough to hallucinate. I have only done kava in the liquid that u can buy in health food stores. He did one bottle and felt the numb tongue and slight buzz, but it wasn't that great. i am betting thatit works okay with other things, swim tried it with alcohol andit kind of boosts alcohol effects.

What exactly do you mean by that? I have never heard of kava producing
psychedelic effects at any dose. I am also unaware of any chemical
similiarity in its active substances and any psychedelic substance. As
well am I unaware of any psychedelic plants closely related to the kava
    plant.

Good standarized extracts can definitively get you very drunk, high and buzzin. Pure kavalactones are even more fun, but need to be carefully dosed.

I use Kava tinctures as a sleep aid. He tend to use Gaia Herbs (I
believe the alcohol-free is glycerine based, and tastes much better).
He haa certainly got effects, but nothing I'd ever consider recreational.

On a night swim's head's moving too fast or he's had a little too much caffeine it generally sets him straight.

If the rules allowed it, I'd post places that sell
some damn good kava root. The quality of the kava makes a difference in the effects.

I have always enjoyed the whole powdered root prepared as a beverage,
just like they do in the islands, more than any of the extracts he has
    tried.

Though he does find use for extracts added to the whole root beverage on
occasion, when he really wants to be super-buzzed on the stuff.
