Hey, swim has read a lot of information on drug testing and detection times, but her question is this: say, she hasn't used anything but methadone for the past 4+ years. If she were to use heroin one time (skin pop around .5 g), is there any POSSIBLE way that a drug test at her methadone clinic could come back positive if the test was 8-9 days from the time she used?

She realizes that one generally only has to wait 2-4 days, but, depending on various factors, it could be much longer. She needs to be absolutely sure, leaving nothing to chance.

Have any swimmers had exeperiences where a test came back positive (for heroin) after, say, a week from the last use? Swim realizes that the amount and frequency of use play a big part.

Any insight/feedback is greatly appreciated. :)

Definitely not, SWIM has passed a drug test from a clinic (many times) as little as 3 days before (Two days doesn't work, trust SWIM). 8 to 9 days is plenty of time since it typical takes 3-4 days.

Note: A person with a much higher body weight should probably wait an additional day.

Opioids don't last too long in you. Cannabis, on the other hand, can be traced after several weeks. Go figure.

This is answered in the Drug Testing sticky. Detection times for heroin average about 3-4 days max.

One thing I seriously urge the OP to consider is what made the OP start on Methadone orginally and what reasons have kept the OP on methadone only for the past four years? Being on methadone I'm sure the OP understands that addiction is a slippery slope. I think the OP should seriously consider the possible ramifications of choosing to go down that path again.

Thanks for the info, Jasim. Yes, swim did read the sticky, but she was just wondering if there could be any chance that the test could come up positive after longer periods of time. Swim remembers when she first stopped using heroin (and went on methadone), it took probably over a week for her to test clean. But, then again, she had been using large amounts for literally 9 years straight without any break.

Also, swim does agree with and appreciate swiy's advice. She has to admit that she's become unhappy in her recovery and just misses heroin. She did use last week but didn't really feel it (probably due to still having methadone in her system).

She used a total of 16 bags over 3 days, and her test is exactly a week from the last time she used. She is going to buy a drug test and take it the night before the test to be sure.

But thanks again for the info. Swim appreciates it.
